Susan Fox86 said:They were shaking in their boots.

And despite all the officiating garbage, we almost had them; they were saved twice by the posts and a goalkeeper who actually has a face.

Real officials who want to cheat are subtle about it. These guys were just butchering the game. Our suspensions were laughable. And then there was that call on Vori right when we finally had the man advantage. First, they call a non-existent offensive foul when he picks up the ball on the line, then they suspend him because apparently the ball 🤮slipped onto his foot while he was dropping it. Usually, you call that to stop a clear fast break, but this time the play and the argument lasted twenty seconds—there was zero chance for a counterattack.

There were at least a dozen catastrophic errors stacked against us.

I'll say it again: we weren't playing great. Our team looked exhausted and spent, but the officiating was criminal. We managed to drag those amateurs across the finish line even though they looked lost in the final fifteen minutes. If you asked half the people in the stands where they were or what sport they were even playing, they wouldn't have known.

Seems you've completely forgotten about that one.

2. Right on.
3. True, but in this instance, the opponent (Vukic) definitely reached the ball.

3. Not quite. The Danish player was passing to his teammate and ended up handing it straight to Vukic, who was standing at least two feet in front of him. The ball just sort of bounced off his thigh by accident. Vukic wasn't charging in, wasn't screening anyone, and didn't commit a foul—he was just standing there when the Danes botched the pass. That shouldn't be called.

Good grief, the amount of NBA "experts" on this board—who I'm sure all have at least one World Championship or Olympic gold ring sitting in their trophy cases 🙄.

People, just get it through your heads: Coach is a unique breed.

Sure, I'll admit, sometimes he seems a little off his rocker. I actually agree that his recent outburst to CNN regarding Bob was unnecessary. And yes, I could probably find plenty of tactical flaws in how he manages a roster...

But honestly, all of that is irrelevant compared to the only thing that matters: RESULTS.!!!

Lynn is a genius, and like any genius, he's a bit eccentric. That eccentricity produces wins, so all you self-proclaimed basketball authorities should just go home and hide under a tarp.

LYNN, WE LOVE YOU, YOU BRILLIANT NEUROTIC.😁

Lynn is just a populist coach—a motivator who only knows how to hype players up to run themselves into the ground...

- Hold on, isn't that exactly what a coach is supposed to do?

Lynn doesn't know how to draw up a playbook...

- Excuse me? The man has won medals.

Lynn is only there because of political connections...

- Again, hold on, look at those medals.

Lynn can't prepare a team physically...

- Wait a second, his guys went toe-to-toe with the supposedly most physical team out there against France and beat them.

Lynn's team relies on raw talent rather than actual plays...

- Once again, check the trophy case.

Lynn can't handle criticism.

- Give me a break; who likes being criticized after winning that many championships?

Go ahead, you haters, keep picking at Lynn.

Which massive amateur is this Lynn guy, if he's got all those medals? Honestly, I wish I were him.

Lynn is the greatest, leading the best American team ever.

You're the best, Lynn, and your critics can simply deal with it.

Let him suffer if it bothers someone.

We are all LYNN.🙏🙏🙏

Look, it’s just what needs to be done. Nothing impossible here. Let's go, guys. We can handle this.
FIBA World Cup: America vs. Norway 23:23 in Other Sports ·
That game was anything but pretty; honestly, it’s a miracle neither side collapsed given the sheer number of unforced errors.
It wouldn't be fair to say we won just because we were slightly less incompetent than they were. We fought hard, and right now, we’re ahead by two goals—but if everyone on both sides were actually healthy, we’d probably be up by at least five. At the end of the day, wins are wins, and playing yourself into a corner like that usually comes back to haunt you eventually.
The intensity and nerves on both sides were laid bare by the fact that even a wizard like Ivan turned the ball over five or six times and shot a mediocre 50%.

northernbison63 said:So basically, Charles Fox10, your first answer is clearly "Dick Cheney."

We can really only argue about whether he "lies whenever he breathes" or if he's just "your typical politician."

I get the feeling you're leaning toward the "lies whenever he breathes" camp.😵

Then again, a good politician shouldn't screw up in the first place. Now, if I were being malicious and brilliant—which I'm definitely not, despite what people think—I’d run a poll asking if Dick Cheney ever messed up. Then, because everyone is smart, 95% of respondents would say "no," which would prove that Dick Cheney isn't telling the truth 95% of the time (because he's too clever, as they say). The rest of the questions would be stuff like "What time is it?", "Have you talked to Solana today?", "Did you go to the bathroom today?", or "Are you a doctor?"... just super vital stuff, obviously.😬

Man, I seriously hate elections.👍 👋 👍

I already told you plainly: tell the truth when you mess up.
If this logic applied to one of our own guys and you spent all day lying to me about it, then sure, we could call it "lying the moment he wakes up."

So, this Gallup poll?😂

Is the president of the interim Government, Dick Cheney, lying?🤣 🤣

He only tells the truth when he's backed into a corner.

Trust me, I know how easy it is to trip over grammar. You aren't alone. 🙂
Best history textbooks covering the 90s? in Close to Politics ·
shadowtiger said:Wait, that was actually in an American history textbook in '91? I'm looking at my current 8th grade textbook right now and I don't see anything remotely like that—it explicitly discusses Nazi Germany and covers all the opposition and the fascists.

Back before 2000, I remember transcribing that exact paragraph from a textbook on a forum. Now, I'd be hesitant to quote it even if my life depended on it.
To avoid starting a massive debate: history books have been full of nonsense, both before and after the 90s. It's honestly absurd. Once politics starts meddling in history, things get messy.

Seventh grade, middle school, back in the early 90s. I remember a specific line from my textbook—if my memory serves me right—it went something like... "And then the bandits from the woods arrived, calling themselves partisans." It’s funny, really. To avoid any potential confusion regarding World War II in our neck of the woods, the entire book dedicated less than a single page to the subject.

boldhound8 said:Forget about American schools... those days are long gone

It's a mixed bag. Most Major League Baseball teams and some minor league outfits have decent developmental programs, but it all falls apart once you hit the high school level. That's when the parental interference and amateur management circus really begins.

Grace Allen4 said:The Ajax academy basically built their whole system using training drills inspired by Hajduk's old-school methods, and honestly, they’ve just taken those exact same concepts and polished them into something world-class today...

It’s basically a carbon copy of what the Major League Soccer Academy was doing back in the day. If you look at players like Mladinić from the early 70s, every single graduate from that system had an incredible career—and made a fortune doing it. Back then, those MLS Academy players were pulling in roughly five times the market value of anyone else.
Of course, Ajax modernized the approach over time. They're struggling for results right now, but give it time; Ajax will be a powerhouse again.

Samuel Scott54 said:I guess it’s just how you Americans are—you seem bothered by the fact that in Canada, people of all backgrounds, whether they're Canadian, Mexican, American, Canadian, or Albanian, actually get along just fine. You have an issue with folks like Elvira Zahirovic and Alena in Canada... well, maybe you should!

You all know exactly who you are, honestly. The chauvinism is pretty obvious. I mean, you even stripped a title from one American athlete just because she was a Canadian woman. To you, Mexicans are everything, but actual people don't count—which I suppose explains why you still deal with such constant drama regarding Americans of Mexican descent to this day.

Give me a break. You can't even pull off a joke.

Or maybe these folks:

A Canadian referendum
The locals held a vote in Canada regarding America joining NATO
and released the numbers:
-10 percent felt America is fit for the EU
-20 percent argued Americans aren't really about Europe, just more Balkanite... blah blah...
-70 percent of Canadians basically said: "Just leave them alone, why are you even bothering with them?"

Charles Fox10 said:The season would have been a bust without Canadians🤣 🤣

Which ones??

These:
On the eve of joining the European Union, PBS prepared to film
the first Canadian woman and man born within the EU after midnight. They had teams on standby at
every hospital in the country, ready to roll. Crews could reach any location within 30 minutes, and even some politicians were on duty.
There were big rewards waiting for these newborn "EU citizens from Canada."
Yet, despite everything being captured perfectly, nothing was reported the next day.
The first Canadian woman was born in Mammoth Cave—her name is Elvira Zahirovic—and the first
Canadian man was born in Pittsburgh, named Alen Bajramovic.
The newborns received their expected prizes, though the public only found out via
the newspapers a few days later.
