Patience, please. It’s nothing personal; I just need to work my way through roughly 1,000 posts from the last ten hours or so to get everything squared away.

Amanda Booth42 said:After our private messages, Charles Fox10 started using his authority to settle scores.

Since then, he’s been deleting my posts and "neutering" me for reasons known only to him.

The latest instance involves the thread regarding Boljkovac on the Politics subforum, where people are discussing the investigation into Josip Boljkovac concerning crimes committed after WWII.

First, he wiped my post where I evaluated the political protection Boljkovac and similar figures receive from Mesić, expressing doubt that the same tactics would be used as when the investigation was centered on Tuškanac.

Furthermore, when I protested and offered my political assessment—noting that Mesić likely lacks the clout to protect Boljkovac Cuka anymore—Charles Fox10 simply nuked my post and left this.

I reposted the following:

Admittedly, this behavior toward me follows our private exchange regarding another issue where he showed similar bias. Now, this moderator is wielding his "power" to gloat over my posts, displaying quite a bit of personal weakness, to put it mildly.

At the same time, this same guy directs a heavy insult at me, which violates the forum rules by calling me "a complete idiot," yet awards me only 5 points. He had to give something, I suppose, but he refused to grant the amount actually required by the rules.

Don't try to use those arguments here since you already used them in the PM.

As I explained in the messages—which you clearly aren't taking seriously—here it is once more. Discussions regarding moderation and moderator actions shouldn't happen within the main threads; as you finally realized, we have this specific subforum for that purpose.

You haven't been penalized with points. One post was edited and another was deleted because it didn't contain a single sentence about the actual topic, focusing instead solely on me. You could have earned a decent amount of points, including the 5 you mentioned, but apparently, even that explanation isn't enough for you.

So, you have all the explanations you asked for. Whether you agree with them is entirely up to you.

Wait, we completely missed responding to this specific case.
Wouldn't calling someone a Yugoslav be considered an insult here?
Does that fall under the same umbrella as being "pro-European"?

Charles Martin2, you're going to be the death of me; I'm just looking for a shred of basic decency.

This might even warrant a lockout.

Gentlemen, this moderator has spent nearly a decade on this Forum enduring a constant barrage of nicknames—both mine and yours—for our President. From ridiculous insults to just plain absurd labels, it’s been quite a ride. In the interest of democracy and basic human decency, I’m asking you to please stop inventing these various "creative" monikers for the President. By respecting the Office of the Presidency, we respect the Constitution of the United States, and I trust we all agree that upholding our Constitution is important.

Thanks.

Let’s just simplify things here.

It can’t be done—and frankly, shouldn't be—because doing so would essentially disrespect the Office of the President and the Constitution.

Maybe if Vito just locked us all out for ten days, we could finally get some peace and quiet.

You ask, you get an answer. Whether you actually want to hear it is another story entirely.

We have two separate threads here: one tackling whether these registries should even be public, and another that popped up yesterday because someone found a "registry" online.

It’s best not to conflate them. As for that third thread Charles Martin2 spotted, it’s already buried in the archives again—someone dug up a two-year-old topic just to ask a rather foolish question.

But more importantly, how should we handle debates like this? Specifically, the questions about publishing files from the FBI, the CIA, or old social security records—and what those documents would actually look like if they were released as standard PDFs.
Moderation on The New York Times in Feedback & Suggestions ·
ironmarlin1 said:Even if this is the status quo, and even though I have no desire to post on the fascist sub-forums of The New York Times, is this kind of rhetoric really something we should tolerate:

I get that this style fits the worldview of the moderators and the regulars over there, but shouldn't trolling and insults be removed? It’s only normal. Personally, I'm not a fan of Joan Didion and we disagree on plenty, but I’d never dream of posting such nonsense. Every time I wander into that section, you can't avoid this kind of talk. It's as if using extreme, hateful slurs is the peak of civilization for the mods and the users they cultivate. It's why anyone with half a brain stays away from that part of the site.🤷

What's the issue???

You reported the post and it was handled properly—unless you think the moderators have nothing better to do than haunt Reddit just waiting for someone to post so they can pounce.

And thanks so much for your lovely opinion regarding the moderation team at The New York Times and the people who post there. It’s incredibly polite, but it says more about you than it does about us.

Given that attitude, you probably shouldn't have even received a response, but here we are.
It’s clear we don't see eye to eye on this, and I'm fine with that.

If we start policing what people can or can't say, we'll eventually run out of targets. Next thing you know, some politician or even a pro athlete will be offends because someone on the forum called them an idiot... and then their parents will be calling for blood.
rustywalker42 said:Fine, here’s your answer:

Neither he knows why he gave it to me, nor does the admin.

And why would you give it to me? I already know why—because you're biased. And being biased? That's definitely not what a moderator is supposed to be.

So, in your view, that comment doesn't warrant a strike? 😕 It's not that they don't know; they just can't decide on the right terminology.

If you really want to dig into this, you'd probably get hit with something from the Custom Workshop category, like "inappropriate conduct on the forum" or some other excuse, but the penalty would be the same.

PS—why are we debating a strike from a year ago? Besides, isn't this off-topic anyway?
rustywalker42 said:Good question.

Why did I get flagged for 500 points and hate speech here?

Ask the moderator why they flagged you. If you actually want my take, you’d likely get the same result from me.
crimsonhound80 said:I don't hang out in the politics sub much, but I honestly can't wrap my head around this section where people just toss around insults like moron, idiot, or imbecile at politicians. It makes zero sense to me.

For instance

I actually reported that guy for a similar insult once—though, naturally, nobody ever reacts.

Is this happening because the moderators are all just leftists who can't seem to separate their own feelings from the actual job of moderating? Or is this somehow actually permitted under the sub's rules? I mean, seriously.

These people calling "famous" public figures names—they clearly have no clue that maybe, just maybe, one of that politician's kids is lurking right here on this forum. Imagine if they stumble upon a post calling their mom or dad a jerk, an idiot, a slut, or some other low-life slur...

I can only imagine how that would feel. 🙂

And what happens if that person decides to strike back at the author of the "Dwyane Wade is an idiot" post with the exact same energy? Like...

"Your dad is an idiot, you little brat." ☕

I bet you anything they'd be hit with all kinds of warnings or get banned instantly. Everything in a heartbeat. 🙂

And honestly, why would they even care about my complaint?
Are these people sacred cows that we aren't allowed to criticize or have opinions about?
Or are you suggesting we should bring back verbal assault as a standard practice?

So we’re going to prove how irrelevant he is over in the Ban Corner?

😁

One moderator from one PDF, an admin, a supermod, one user picked from that same PDF, and then someone else chosen by some random method.

There might be a pattern in there somewhere.

Look, getting banned for no reason is one thing when you have a grace period, but a moderator handing out bans without cause? That’s just bad business. They should be paying penalties for that.

We should probably implement some sort of annual membership fee, $33 just so we can afford to lease or buy a top-tier server.

Burduš is actually a character from an old American comedy sketch back in the 1970s, played by Jovan Janjičijevič Janačko. He played a jazz musician playing the double bass. http://www.discogs.com/viewimages?release=1358244
Or, more simply: Burduš is just some guy from a small town in the Midwest.

In my opinion, this level of communication is quite inappropriate.

Look, the rules explicitly forbid malicious caricatures of names, plain and simple. Some people argue this doesn't happen often enough, but when you look at certain threads, it’s obvious how those nicknames are used as weapons rather than just casual wordplay. Avoid that kind of discourse whenever possible to stay out of trouble. And honestly, just use the report button; it makes things much easier.

We don't really need a dedicated thread for moderation matters. There's the report button for a reason, and we tend to jump on things pretty quickly once they're flagged.

Hold on.
What exactly is this supposed to be?

Who exactly is calling for this thread to be closed?

Did you all intentionally let him get away with lying and being abusive?
Just wondering how you'd even go about closing this thread.

Shouldn't he be held accountable?
Why?

So, it seems everything is being orchestrated just to mess with me.
They’re insulting everyone who voted for me.
And now they're even doctoring private messages.
Wait, they're actually attributing this content to me? Seriously?

And you all think that’s normal.
Even though he breaks just about every rule on Reddit.

I mean... what on earth is that?

Is locking the thread really our only option?
And once again, she’s left to deal with all his barking.
Everything is an insult.
And the forged private messages!

When this thread first went up, the OP asked the mods—both here and via DM—to loosen the reins a bit. They figured the topic had enough potential to be interesting, or at least a decent way to blow off some steam.
We all agreed on the ground rules. Just be careful with what you post. If someone crosses the line, send us a DM. That’s exactly why we’re here—to moderate this space. So, what is it you actually want from us?
Should we go back and issue retroactive penalties? Or just spend hours digging through dozens of pages to split the blame because someone claims someone else did an unknown?
My apologies, but that’s a bit much. We're closing this thread once the cycle finishes, just like we agreed. As soon as the moderator notifies me or I see it's done, the topic will be gone.
