The social psychology of homophobia in Psychology ·
Perhaps it would be more effective if we stuck to English here.😉

The term "queer" essentially serves as an umbrella term designed to encompass the entire spectrum of homosexual, bisexual, transgender, and intersex communities while also including heterosexual individuals who choose to live their lives outside the traditional constraints of hetero-patriarchal norms.
.....

Nowadays, however, you see the "queer" identity being embraced by practitioners of S&M, various fetishists regardless of their orientation, and anyone else who simply refuses to subscribe to the binary concepts of gender and sex..

There you have it.

I can't believe I actually said that out loud! Honestly, I should probably just keep my thoughts to myself more often, haha. But hey, sometimes you just have to let it rip! kaže:
I honestly don't get why you even bother starting threads with "homo" in the title, let alone actually replying to them.🤷

Look, I get it. It's your right, absolutely—as long as you aren't stepping on anyone else's toes to make your point.
Look, I can think whatever negative things I want about you, but as long as I'm not actually stepping on your toes or messing with your life, it's nobody's business.

I’m not out to hurt anyone. I have zero interest in marching in any Pride parades, and I'm certainly not looking to lecture you guys. Legion hit the nail on the head. Honestly? I couldn't care less what you all think.
Opening like fifty different threads for every single PDF could really come back to bite you guys.😉

Don't overplay your hand.
It’s pretty obvious this bothers you so much that when you spot one thread, it feels like you've stumbled upon thirty.
I still don't quite grasp why you even bother starting a topic like this just to come here and argue.
Are those two or three threads on a random message board really that impossible to simply ignore?😕

Take me, for example. I’m not into, say... BDSM.
It’s just not my thing; I don't practice it, and frankly, I don't see the appeal. So, when I see a thread about it, I just don't click. Why would I? Just to tell everyone else they aren't "normal" or whatever? 😕😕

But fine... you're basically admitting to being homophobic, so it seems your issue goes a bit deeper than just internet browsing.

RC is really just a parody of the whole Red Carpet concept.
I don't think it's fair to jump to the conclusion that Delale is homophobic just because of the show's premise, which seems to treat everyone with the same level of irreverence. 🤷

I was actually thinking along much the same lines just a moment ago.
The Red Carpet segment mocks everything. And I mean EVERYTHING.
So, if someone like super Silva ends up on that list... well, honestly, how is anyone supposed to look the other way? How can you not take the piss? 🤷

redharbor9 said:Yeah, I remember when super Silva "realized" she was a lesbian... I definitely saw plenty of posts online from frustrated macho dudes losing their minds over it. 😍

🤣🤣

joooj, the whole thing was such a complete joke that it isn't even worth bringing up.🤦

granitefalcon26 said:Honestly, you guys are getting exhausting with all this gay stuff. 🙄I can't even start a single thread without one of you jumping down my throat.
So what? I'm homophobic and I don't want to change. I have a right to my opinion. It's not like I want to hear about gays and lesbians and their love lives. Legion put it perfectly. If you turn this forum into a gay site, we'll just move to other pages. Or go ahead and start a separate PDF to hang out there. But I don't have to read it.☕
And again, I have a right to my own opinion.😁

I don't quite grasp the logic behind you starting threads with "gay" right in the title, let alone being the one to reply to them.🤷

So what? I'm homophobic and I have no intention of changing my mind.

You realize, of course, that's your prerogative—provided that your personal views don't infringe upon anyone else's rights, right?
To put it simply: I am perfectly entitled to think whatever I want about you, but as long as I'm not actively sabotaging your life or livelihood, it’s nobody's business.

Ryan Wood98 said:Could someone please explain how the host of "Red Carpet" managed to end up on a list of top homophobes?

I don't follow the show very closely, so I'm not entirely sure what he actually said or did, but from what I have seen of the program, it honestly feels quite... how should I put this... homoerotic?

Honestly, I’m about 99.9% convinced that Delale is gay.
As for him being on some list of homophobes, I haven't the slightest clue. Perhaps people just take his constant, snarky mockery of everything in that trashy show far too seriously?🤷

Or maybe he's just internalized it.😁

Or maybe he's just lost in the woods.

Daniel Wilson5 said:Hmm, "anger" and "frustration" sound a bit more intense than the tone I’ve actually been using until now. But hey, if that's how you see it....

Fair enough, but from what I can gather, your first thread got shut down for the exact same reason—that heated, offensive tone. At least, that’s what Gary James88 mentioned.🤷
Besides, there's really no need to slide into people's DMs or throw insults around just to make sure your frustration and irritation come through in your posts.

In my experience participating in these kinds of discussions—I've even started a thread about LGBTQ+ topics before—staying level-headed and attempting to tolerate differing viewpoints (provided they aren't outright aggressive) usually yields much better results.

Daniel Wilson5 said:As far as I'm concerned, it won't end in a fight because that wasn't even the point of this discussion. And if you want my honest opinion, you're being a pretty hardcore homophobe because you clearly couldn't care less—and that's actually the worst part!

Look... if your default setting is to attack anyone who isn't busy singing praises to homosexuals, you aren't going to get very far, nor are you going to find much sympathy here.
Tolerance is supposed to be a two-way street. Even when we're feeling frustrated or heated, jumping down someone's throat over every single syllable doesn't actually help the "cause."😉

Gary James88 said:Awareness is fine, but homophobia is a much broader socio-cultural issue than just a psychological or medical one. You can see that from the intro text; it’s full of claims that any decent sociologist would tear apart for being dubious and inaccurate, which honestly just ends up hurting the community.

Actually, like you mentioned earlier... the text was way too long. I didn't quite have the stamina to slog through the whole thing.
That said, I'm with you—the context here goes far beyond simple psychology or medicine.

redharbor9 said:Fines and stuff would definitely help... honestly, it’d just crank up the effect...

The thing is, we already have penalties on the books for what they call "hate crimes."
That covers everything from verbal harassment to physical assaults targeting the LGBTQ+ community.
The social psychology of homophobia in Psychology ·
Daniel Wilson5 said:slywolf45, we really need to call out what homophobia actually looks like. Most people don't even realize they're being homophobes, let alone understand why they act that way or the actual damage they cause to gay people and the community at large. It’s also refreshing to see that even within the field of social psychology, homophobia is officially recognized as toxic behavior that needs to be addressed...

Fair enough.
Awareness is vital, sure.
But how exactly do you reach the crowd that still views homosexuality as some kind of pathology—people who don't even grant that specific "profession" any legitimacy or legal standing in the first place?🤷
Most folks know the term "homophobia" exists, but I highly doubt anyone is going to look in the mirror and admit, "Yeah, I'm a homophobe."

Personally, I find concepts like internalized homophobia much more compelling to unpack right now.
The social psychology of homophobia in Psychology ·
To be honest, I’m not entirely sure what else there is to say regarding homophobia; it feels like the conversation has already been exhausted.
The people who fit the descriptions being tossed around here would never actually label themselves as homophobes. Their logic? Well, they don't claim to be "afraid" of gay people, failing to realize that what's actually happening is a complex web of negative sentiments that goes far beyond simple fear—at least, not in the way most of us define it.

Similarly, just because someone views certain aspects of homosexuality through a negative lens doesn't automatically make them a homophobe, nor is all homophobia expressed through overt, aggressive outbursts or physical threats.

Ultimately, these debates always seem to devolve into endless bickering, ending with the convenient conclusion that homophobia isn't even real, but rather just some concept invented by the LGBTQ+ community.

It seems to me that the number three is always my go-to, much like it is for pretty much everyone else I know.
I can't help but wonder—what is it about that specific number that carries such weight? 🤔

Honestly, the only advice I can offer you at this point is to just bump the settings to 20 posts per page. 😢

Yeah, I run into that occasionally in Opera too, though it’s pretty rare and usually clears up with a quick refresh.
Unless, of course, you hit that specific wall where a refresh just hands you those lovely little error codes—503, 504, 505, or a polite "Sorry, we're doing some quick maintenance on the server."😳
