A complete psychopath and a sadist... someone who just happened to find the perfect breeding ground in a hyper-patriarchal society... one where everyone is taught to look out for nothing but their own skin and their own immediate family... while you’re expected to turn a blind eye to everything else happening right under your nose...

From what I gather, his wife was quite a bit younger than him... and I’d bet anything she was incredibly submissive... honestly, it sounds like a textbook S&M dynamic to me...
...The abuser acted like he was God, and "discipline" was the way of the world—that's how we used to phrase it, right? Basically, he made all the calls, and if anyone dared to push back or stop playing along, they just got beaten into submission... pure brute force...
....Let's paint the picture: say he was around 30 years old... he finds this young girl, raised to be perfectly obedient... he’s the educated one, with the degrees, the high-paying career, and the solid reputation... meanwhile, she’s a nobody, just someone who happened to be there... raised with those traditional values of being quiet and compliant with the men in the house...
....Frizlek brings the prestige, but he demands absolute, unconditional surrender in return... from day one, he claims rights to everything, while she only gets what he decides to grant her...
...Then the kids come along... she’s the one responsible for them, but he’s the one who punishes both her and the children whenever things don't meet his impossible standards...
Eventually, the kids hit puberty...
....As things change with wealth and shifting trends... people start building high-tech storm shelters... families head off on luxury vacations to exotic destinations...
....Frizl starts soaking up all these new experiences and opportunities... and his darker, more twisted side really begins to flourish alongside the rise of sex tourism...
....Suddenly, that lifelong fantasy of total ownership over women feels reachable... you save up a few thousand bucks, book a well-organized trip, and surrounded by people just like you, you let your darkest impulses run wild... all kinds of violence... all kinds of depravity... even treating children like objects for sexual gratification...
...And then, you just fly home, and it’s like nothing ever happened. No one ever finds out...
....Of course, back at home, the wife and kids are waiting...
....That idea of building a soundproofed, ultra-isolated basement shelter? That’s a literal dream come true for Fritzl... it sets the stage for his monstrous crime... a crime where we only actually know a tiny fraction of the truth... specifically, what he did to one of his daughters...
....What on earth was that monster doing while he was traveling through Eastern Europe and elsewhere? We have no clue...
...I refuse to believe he was just some innocent tourist...
...I remember reading about so many scandals in the papers back in the 80s and 90s... cases where sex tourists didn't just assault little kids as young as six or seven... they murdered them too... and these were all "respectable" citizens from Western countries...
...Does it ever occur to anyone to actually look into Fritzl's travel history?...
.....How many others like him are out there (even without a secret basement setup)?...
....And how much of the blame lies with us, for turning our heads away from all those women and children being raped, beaten, and humiliated?...
...How many times have we just listened or said, "Well, that's their business... that's how they choose to live... what can I do if they don't even know how to run away?"...
...It seems like the Frizleks of the world will always be the masters of the shadows in our basements...

I honestly think there are at least a thousand people in the USA who won't be able to afford that kind of comfort, constant care, and luxury when they get older...
...As for him? I’d just lock him up right where he kept his daughter and grandkids. Put him in the same kind of isolation with those exact same rules (minus the screaming and the physical abuse)... and just slide food through the door. It would be nothing more than what the locals brought him... nothing better than what he forced upon his slaves... while charging admission for tourists to wander around, film everything, and wait for his end to arrive...
His life would depend entirely on the mercy of others... every single day... until the very end... and there wouldn't be any medical care...

Robert Diaz7 said:Probably borderline with a heavy lean toward psychosis. 🙂 And honestly, it probably ends in full-blown psychosis.

I actually dig this topic, because if I'm being real, I think that's exactly what Jesus was—just someone dealing with mental illness. Like, you have this guy show up, totally ready to take on every single sin ever, super charismatic (which is a classic trait for people struggling with psych issues), and that's basically the whole story. It’s kind of like how people view Judge Dredd today, I guess.
And hey, if you ask me, the people who actually believe in Jesus are pretty messed up too, at least in my book. 🤷

I'm with you on that... but assuming we're even talking about a real historical figure...
...though my take is that he wasn't just one specific individual... more like a collection of different people throughout history... a prototype for a certain type of person...

I don't quite get why everyone just takes it for granted that Jesus even existed in the first place...
Jesus' diagnosis in Psychology ·
... man, Jesus... it’s such a sharp, well-told story about a hero who tried to shift the world through nothing but peaceful resistance... he really stands in for all those overlooked, everyday people... the ones who get sidelined, stepped on, betrayed, and ultimately taken out by the very systems they tried to change without ever lifting a finger in violence...
he turns into a revolutionary once he truly sees the truth... but for that kind of revolution to actually work, it has to be deeply personal... otherwise, it’s just another hollow deception...
....it’s about channeling love for others through your own soul... and by loving yourself and humanity through everyone you meet... that's the ultimate realization that shatters every weapon of violence... that's where you finally encounter God's truth...

James Chase10 said:Alright then, what exactly is this diagnosis for Little Red Riding Hood?

Maybe the diagnosis should be... that all fairy tales just have a massive disconnect from reality...
...I mean, common sense dictates you don't just wander off alone if you aren't playing with fire...
...and once you actually move out into the wilderness... or even just deep into the woods...
...hanging out exclusively with animals, you're eventually going to start acting just like them...
...and before you know it, nobody... not even your own family... will be able to recognize you anymore...

So, Little Red Riding Hood isn't really this innocent little story about girls needing to watch out for men...
Jesus' diagnosis in Psychology ·
... just the fact that wolves even exist in the first place... that’s a pretty heavy piece of evidence right there.... I’m sure Little Red Riding Hood was a perfectly well-behaved little girl.... but.... she really needs a diagnosis.... either her.... or maybe her grandmother....
Jesus' diagnosis in Psychology ·
This is such a fascinating topic to dive into...
...I remember even when I was just a kid, I used to wonder how a child could be old enough to trek through the woods alone to visit their grandma in the next town over...
...and still somehow fail to tell the difference between a wolf and their grandmother...
...something just doesn't add up there. I mean, surely they weren't sending a two-year-old out on her own...
...but then again, if she was older... how does someone miss the fact that an animal is standing where a person should be?...
...either the kid was completely clueless... or Grandma was looking pretty terrifying herself...
...someone involved in this story had to have been seriously lacking in judgment...

.... and honestly, there isn't much evidence to suggest the kid wasn't real. There’s a solid description of her, right down to the detail about her wearing a red hood... and if she was rocking a little red hood like that, she’s definitely a real character...
.... plus, so many people have illustrated her over the years... she’s got a whole history behind her...
ironwolf82 said:After years of dealing with this, I’ve developed this nagging feeling—and I’m about 99% sure I'm right—that people are laughing at me. Life hasn't exactly been easy on me so far, and I think all those hardships and frustrations have just etched themselves onto my face. I live in a really small town where everyone knows everyone else's business.
I'm 29 now, and honestly, I feel like I haven't accomplished much. I'm not married (in this community, people expect you to already have two kids by now), I'm unemployed (even though I have my degree, there just aren't any jobs available), I don't have a serious partner, and I'm not particularly good-looking—which is something I struggle to accept myself. Because I feel like a failure, I rarely go out, and when I do, the reaction from people—both younger and older—is usually mockery or avoidance. It makes me terrified to go out, and when I finally do, I end up looking visibly anxious. Based on how they act, I can tell they think my face looks ridiculous, or that I'm just some loser who hasn't achieved anything in life.
All of this just makes life feel so heavy and low-quality. On top of everything else, it completely crushes my self-esteem and leaves me feeling miserable, even though I've never done anything to hurt anyone. I find myself wondering why people seem to dislike or even hate me...
Sure, it's their right to judge me how they want, but I just don't know how to stop it from getting to me. That's the part that's really eating away at me. Why does it have to be this way?
Again, I keep coming back to the fact that I haven't been mean to anyone or mocked anyone, so there shouldn't be a reason for this. I sit there wondering why people are like this, why they seem to want to see me struggling. Why should they care, when I'm just living my own life?
I really need someone to talk to. I could use some advice on how to deal with these feelings and work through this internally. I truly don't know what the solution is... I'm 29, after all.

......................................
...I'm 69 years old.....and I haven't accomplished very much in my lifetime either....
....life hasn't been easy.....plenty of frustrations.....so many traumas have piled up....it's left its mark on me mentally....and often, you can see it physically too.....I live in a community I'm still getting to know........and there are very few people I actually want to spend real time with.....not that I can't stand them.....it's just that I'm perfectly happy being by myself....
I've completed several degrees.....I don't have a steady career.....I don't have money beyond just making ends meet day to day....

And yet........my life is beautiful......I love heading out into nature.....I love listening to music out in the wild.....especially classical music in the middle of a forest.....
...life is beautiful.....because I am a traveler who manages to clear every obstacle in the path... or bypass it... or jump over it... or just move it out of the way....
...and I find joy specifically because I know I can walk through this world on my own two feet.....

As for the people in my neck of the woods, they show up for a while.....and then they're gone......
...they are transient.....and we are transient too.....
...I won't let them dictate how I live my life if they aren't willing to walk beside me on the journey......
....if a place doesn't offer anything good for me....I just pack up and move on...
.....because the world exists for me....and I exist to enjoy and explore it....

Go out into the fields....go up into the mountains....
...go somewhere where you can be out in the open and alone......and look around you.....look closely and write down everything you see......keep a journal of your days......
...one day you'll realize who you truly are in this vast world...
....learn from nature while you are still young.....
...and once you've grown stronger, go out among the people and just observe them....
.... just sit back, watch how they handle things, and take notes...... eventually, you'll figure out exactly what's right for you....

...to really live is to never stop learning....

...you just have to realize there are people out there who will take advantage of you the second they get the chance....
...then you’ve got those types who are only decent if they feel like they’re standing on equal footing with you. If they sense someone is a little weaker or more vulnerable, they’ll squeeze every bit of profit they can out of the situation....

...and honestly, whether a message is blunt or layered with subtext... it doesn't matter if it came from a man or a woman... words can be weaponized in so many ways. Ambiguous language is often used as a tool to mislead, to charm, or to pull the rug out from under you. It's a way to manipulate whether they end up helping you or using you. But even being crystal clear can be a trap—sometimes, being too direct catches people off guard because they were expecting a game of shadows instead of the truth....

Can stress actually cause weight gain? in Psychology ·
copperharbor10 said:So, okay... I’ve been trying to lose weight for literal years, right? But honestly, no matter what I try, nothing works. It’s actually getting worse—like, the scale just keeps creeping up. I’m avoiding all the junk, I’m really putting in the effort, I swear, but it’s just not happening. The pounds are just piling on.
I heard this thing from someone once—they said there’s actual medical proof that if you’re mentally convinced that you’re gonna gain weight while you're eating, then you actually *will* gain weight. Like, your body just absorbs every single bite because of it. And gosh, I am so obsessed with this idea that I look a certain way that even a glass of water feels like it's making me gain weight, which is just... it's totally killing me mentally!
Is it actually possible that it’s all just in my head? I mean, seriously, there are people out there who eat like crazy, at all hours, zero self-control, and they stay super thin. They aren't constantly stressing about every calorie or how much they'll weigh, they just enjoy their food (which, I guess, is easy when you have a perfect body). So, I guess I'm just wondering... does anyone know if there's any truth to this whole psychological thing?

If weight gain was purely a mental game, I’d be sitting at a rock-solid 120 pounds... because I spend my entire day thinking, "Oh, this won't make me gain weight..." and "Maybe this one is fine..." over and over again.
.... but unfortunately.... or maybe luckily....
...it mostly boils down to what you eat and how much you eat.... versus how much energy you actually burn....
...it's either too many calories coming in.... or not enough movement going out....

.....It’s all about the balance..... kind of like accounting.... I’m always turning a profit..... but I’m not exactly thrilled about carrying that extra profit around with me day and night.....

I was just thinking... if everyone were forced to carry their entire net worth on their back 24/7.... we'd get rid of all that excess wealth and surplus.... and we'd all just live in some sort of perfect, equalized utopia.... 🙂

Well, I honestly feel like it all comes down to the specific teacher in charge. If you happen to have a decent, reasonable person running the classroom, those bullies usually get sorted out pretty quickly.
The best move is for the teacher to announce they’re reshuffling the whole seating chart—so no one feels singled out—and then seat your little one next to someone new, while moving the ringleader next to someone they wouldn't dare mess with, like the most popular kid in class.
Your child will likely make a new friend almost immediately by sitting next to them, which helps them step away from the drama, and maybe the teacher can just keep a closer eye on things during recess for a little while to be safe.

👍

That’s a solid point..... teachers and schools have a responsibility to fix this stuff...... and it isn't a small issue; it can leave lasting scars.....
.... every single kid deserves to feel safe at school, to feel accepted, and to be encouraged in their learning and growth... plus, they have the right to socialize and learn how to behave properly (without picking on others) .......
Honestly, there are certain people in my life who truly mean the world to me... I don't really sweat the social gatherings or meetups that feel a bit hollow or awkward. To me, those lackluster events are just a backdrop—they serve as a reminder of what real connection feels like when you're actually hanging out with your closest friends.
...As for the people who see the world through a completely different lens... those who haven't quite reached the same level of self-awareness or understanding that I have... I approach them with a sort of detached empathy. It’s like looking at someone with a totally different set of life experiences; their behavior is just a byproduct of their own unique journey, so I don't take it personally.
