Kate Jones2 said:To be perfectly honest, I wouldn't dive headfirst into that mess right now—not with how things are going. My siblings all married early and started families, so we ended up living like total paupers for a while. And by that, I mean our "fancy" lunches consisted of nothing but baked potatoes, and we spent half our time playing hide-and-seek from the EPA whenever they showed up to pull the power.

One day—once I actually get my life together and things settle down a bit—I'll definitely start looking into that.

Hold up a second—your family was struggling that hard, yet you actually finished college?
Who was picking up the tab for your tuition?
Now you've got a great salary (for HR standards), you're living on your own, and you still can't manage to fix up at least one bedroom, a kitchen, or a bathroom?
If your whole family is over in Germany, how is this house so deep in debt—who even owns the place?
A ton of people would kill to land a job paying $1333 and not have to deal with roommates, yet you seem totally lost on what you actually want.

I deal with this dynamic with my brother from time to time
Essentially, he drags me right into his mess through both his words and his body language
And before I know it, I find myself feeling this strange, sudden surge of aggression bubbling up inside me.

Honestly, the only way you’re gonna get past this is by completely tuning out your brother's nonsense.
There are tons of people out there acting exactly like this nowadays. They basically want to drag everyone else down into the gutter with them just because they're struggling. Your absolute best bet? Just IGNORE them.

You know that old saying—you can do whatever you want, just not for as long as you want.
It’s pretty obvious that was the mindset behind the author's mom when she finally walked out on her husband—who, let's be honest, sounds like he spent his whole life making her miserable.

Megan Flores6 said:The truth is, he genuinely believes I’m the only person left in his corner, and honestly, he isn't entirely wrong. He has this incredibly difficult temperament—the kind that burns bridges without even trying. He actually managed to pick a fight with his sister and her entire family, and they all live on the same street here in the suburbs. His other sister lives halfway across the country, so she’s effectively sidelined from all this domestic drama. Neither of them feels any obligation to step up and deal with him, and frankly, I can't say I blame them for staying away.
I, however, feel that weight on my shoulders, especially when he pulls the "you're the only one I have" card.

I realize it’s probably not healthy for me to be so deeply enmeshed in this, but like you mentioned, we both need professional help. Both him and me. I recognize that reality and accept it, but of course, he'll never admit it, let alone actually seek it out. Every single time I try to bring it up gently or frame it as a constructive way forward, he just shuts me down with total disapproval.

Your mom basically waited until all three of her daughters were independent before finally making her break for it from a husband with a temper like that.
Your old man is clearly playing a dirty hand by leaning so hard on the sympathy card. Don't let him pull you into that trap! You mentioned he loves you most because you're the youngest, but what does that actually get you? Just more harassment via phone calls until you're ready to lose it and start smashing things around the house?
Just tell him straight up that you have your own life and he needs to back off. Give him a call every once in a while to check in, and leave it at that.
Existential dread: Does any of this actually matter? in Psychology & Therapy ·
Honestly, anyone currently stuck on a psych couch seriously needs to just pack their bags, fly out to Tibet, and meditate there until the end of time. It’s pretty much the only way to fix things at this point! ☕
Why do people get so weird once they're in a relationship? in Psychology & Therapy ·
Honestly, if someone screws over a long-time friend just because they started dating someone new—they were never actually a real friend to begin with. For people like that? It’s a permanent block and zero headspace for them.

Poor little kitty. Just freezing out there on the balcony.
Look, I know you’re a total animal lover and this is hitting you hard. That former owner sounds like an absolute jerk—just a heartless piece of work, honestly.
I seriously can't stand people who don't care about animals or treat them like garbage.
Like, why even get one in the first place? A pet isn't some cheap toy you can just toss aside—they have souls, you know?

She’s seriously such a boundary-crosser 😁
Honestly, if I were in your shoes, I'd just shoot her a quick text saying I don't have the bandwidth for hanging out this often. Short, sweet, and to the point! If she still doesn't get the hint and keeps blowing up your phone, then you gotta send a firmer message—just stop stressing about how she'll take it. You've gotta look out for yourself!

p.s. Man, I really can't stand people who just show up unannounced. The only person allowed to pull that stunt in my life is my sister, and even then, I try not to be too hard on her. We aren't living in the old days anymore where nobody had a cell phone to check in first!

Spot on. When we were kids, our social circles were massive—just tons of friends everywhere! But then, year after year, that list just keeps shrinking. You meet people at different stages of life and eventually, you have to do a little "audit" of your crew. Why waste precious energy on people who don't really matter or who leave you feeling totally drained? Like, what's even the point of having a friend if you can't actually trust them?
I always say, if dogs and cats could talk, nobody would ever need a human friend again! 😁

I don't get why everyone is so shocked by this.
As people get older, they just stop hanging out as much—it’s nothing personal, they just don't feel the need to broadcast their business to the world anymore. If they do run into someone they know, it’s usually just a quick "Hey, how's it going?" before moving on with their day.
Real friends? Man, those are hard to find, and if you actually have one, hold onto them tight. For me, a true friend is someone I can vent to about my entire private life, knowing—without a shadow of a doubt—that everything stays between us. Are there people like that out there? Honestly, hardly anyone. Personally, I've never been the type to go digging into other people's drama anyway. And hey, if you're bored and looking for some tea, just come hang out and read the threads here 😁
. Most of my time goes to my family and relatives—the people I actually care about, who I can tell absolutely anything to, knowing they'll always have my back (and I'll have theirs).
With neighbors, it’s mostly just polite small talk about the weather or whatever.
It’s just how things are these days, I guess. We've got the internet, so we can look up literally anything we want. We don't really need to go asking people for info anymore. Google knows everything 😁

8 months post-breakup and the depression is hitting hard. Help. in Psychology & Therapy ·
How can you still have feelings for someone who actually told you to go kill yourself just so he could get his hands on some cash, or someone who walked out on you when your little one was still tiny — those were her exact words.

Look, don't get mad at me, but honestly, your post says it all.
The guy doesn't love you, and let's be real—he probably never did. HE WAS A TOTAL FRAUD, and you just couldn't see it because you were completely blinded by how much you loved him.
You claim the kid isn't his, but she was calling him "Daddy." To him, that's just noise. It means absolutely nothing.
That child isn't his.

So, how are you supposed to move on?
Simple—every single morning, make sure you read that sentence I put in bold.
And before you hit the hay at night, say it to yourself ten times.

You’ve got your kid... and you have a million reasons to build a better life for yourself, but there's one catch: stop trying to view everything through the lens of "love" for this guy. Instead, prove to yourself that someone like him has zero place in your world.
Whenever you run into those nasty or just plain rude comments—honestly, my best move is to just hit them back with a quick "Who told you that?"... then totally ghost 'em.
I honestly think you truly love the guy if you’re willing to step up and help him through all those struggles he's dealing with. I mean, he's been through two marriages and so much health trouble already, yet here you are—not backing down one bit. Seriously, props to you for being so brave 👍
I just really hope he feels the same way about you and realizes how much he appreciates having someone with a heart like yours in his corner—it’s such a rarity these days, especially when everyone seems so obsessed with nothing but money.
How do you deal with the horrors you see and hear? in Psychology & Therapy ·
Seriously, just stop watching the news—the second someone starts yapping about it, they’ve already lost the battle.
Go ahead and pick up a hobby—knit some sweaters, crochet something cool, make some jewelry, delete Facebook, meditate... whatever works! Just tell yourself: "Whatever happens to everyone else, happens to me too."
I honestly don't let any of that stuff get to me at all.

dustytinker52 said:The real issue here is that you can't just solve this through sheer willpower—it’s not like I can just tell myself, "Get a grip, stop thinking these things!"—because if you could simply force thoughts away, mental health struggles wouldn't even exist in the first place.

Look, if you want to actually kick those fears to the curb, you need a real strategy—you’ve gotta do the actual work on yourself. Just basic talk therapy isn't always enough.
Facing your fears head-on is really the only way to finally be free of them.
But before you can even tackle them, you have to "get your headspace organized" first.
Once it finally clicks that *you* are the one in the driver's seat—not those anxious little voices—that's when the real healing starts.
It might take some people a lifetime and others a bit less, but honestly, it’s the only way to beat anxiety. EVERYTHING starts in your mind.
Dealing with anxiety and panic attacks at work in Psychology & Therapy ·
So, that’s the whole kicker right there—what if people actually notice I’m freaking out? What if this time it just goes south completely and I lose all control? Like, what if I totally snap and can't even function because my heart is hammering against my ribs and my hands won't stop shaking?
Honestly, that is the exact question every single person dealing with panic attacks asks themselves.
But here’s the truth: NOTHING IS GOING TO HAPPEN. ZERO. NADA.
It always starts with the thoughts first, then the physical stuff kicks in, and then your brain starts spiraling—you start thinking that if your body isn't listening to you, your mind is going to check out too, and you'll end up looking like a total mess in front of everyone.
Once you wrap your head around how that cycle works and actually REWIRE THOSE THOUGHTS, everything starts to settle back down.
Basically, the second those initial thoughts and physical jitters start creeping up, you've gotta pause and tell that fear straight up: "Nope, not today! I'm calling the shots now," and just watch the anxiety start to fade.
You really have to practice this, though. It might click right away, or it might take a few tries. Sometimes it’ll try to creep back in, but eventually, the fear realizes there's nothing left for it to feed on here since we aren't giving it any traction.
And look, just knowing this intellectually isn't enough—you actually have to put in the work and practice it.

Talking through your fears and flipping the script on your own thoughts—honestly, that’s the only thing that actually works for anxiety (assuming you're hitting up therapy, too).
Once you finally face down those fears head-on, you realize they weren't even half as scary as you imagined. You just have to push through to that moment.
Workplace bullying and a life that's basically one giant stress ball are the huge triggers—especially if you're someone who feels things deeply.
Sometimes I get the feeling that people who are just totally numb or don't give a damn about what happens next... well, they don't really deal with this stuff.
You just have to dig deep, find that inner strength, take control of your headspace, and SHOW THOSE FEARS WHO'S ACTUALLY IN CHARGE.
Should I say "no" or just brush it off? in Psychology & Therapy ·
If you can't learn how to just say NO, then honestly, just tell 'em to FUCK OFF 🙂
