Even over on Alternative, this kind of stuff isn't gonna fly (anymore?) without some actual bans. I’m definitely going to flag the mods and tell them they need to tighten up the rules, because honestly, way too much crap has been getting through just by being deleted after the fact. And look, if we’re all just going to keep repeating ourselves and running in circles here, maybe it’s better if this whole thread just gets locked up.

Did you report this via the flag icon? If so, just hang tight for a mod to jump in. They don't always react instantly, but usually, you'll hear something within a day or so.

As for that chat you're bringing up, the Offtopic section is its own thing—it’s literally called Offtopic, which means it's just general chatter, and believe me or don't, I'm not sitting there reading through it with my morning coffee, because honestly, there isn't much worth reading there anyway, and from a moderator's perspective, those threads aren't really something you can track like the main topics on the site.

If someone starts trash-talking someone else in one of those million random chat threads, I usually just get reports, then I jump in and moderate the thread. But if nobody files a report, how am I supposed to know if someone was being a jerk to you on page 358 of a thread that's already hit page 855 by the time I log on? I think you get my point.

If you see someone giving you grief—and you shouldn't even be seeing it if you're under a partial ban, but maybe you're logged out or a friend tells you what's happening—just have them file a report or send me a DM.

Yeah, true, I guess the registration process just strips out those accents entirely. But look, the manual fixes people ask for here—you know, where they need a specific accent on a certain letter—those actually go through, probably because they're being handled via the admin panel.
Though, honestly, sometimes the server just flat-out refuses to accept it even then. It’s mostly just a server issue, really; sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, it's kind of random.

I gotta say, I was honestly blown away by this movie.
The concept is killer, and man, that kid Jacob Tremblay? He’s incredible. After seeing how much he crushed it in Room, I knew he’d be good here, but he really outdid himself. The kid is just a natural; I honestly think he’s going to be an A-list superstar once he grows up.

I think Edward Price6 actually nailed the explanation. Basically, everything the kid dreams about manifests in the real world and doesn't just vanish when he wakes up. Sure, the monsters and the people disappear, but the physical damage they cause stays behind—like that door getting trashed and stuff like that.
Personally, I loved the ending. It gives us a happy ending, but it isn't one of those cheesy, cliché Hollywood endings. It feels more... complete? Like the story wraps up nicely while still leaving the door open for both the good stuff, maybe bringing back the people eaten by Cancer man, and the bad stuff too.

There’s really no reason to just troll for the sake of it. Adding an accent to a single letter is totally fine, and honestly, those kinds of tweaks have already been cleared during previous edits. This isn't some special case.

The registration date isn't actually what we look at when deciding whether to approve a name change for an inactive account.
For that kind of thing to happen, usually the user has basically zero posts, or if they do have them, they're all just 'junk' posts, and most importantly, they haven't logged into the forum in years—so it's pretty obvious the handle is just 'abandoned.' Only in cases like that would we even consider approving the change, so yeah, not happening here.
And Frank Reed4 was active recently, regardless of whether he's posting on this specific forum or not.

Look, we hit a massive snag when politics started bleeding into this subforum, which honestly shouldn't have happened in the first place. So, after chatting it over with the other mods, we’ve decided we aren't going to let these political debates spill over here anymore. If you want to argue about politics, there’s an entire separate section specifically for that.

As for Pontius Pilate, most of what he posts is just straight-up trolling, and I totally get why everyone is feeling pretty much at their breaking point. There really shouldn't be a situation where the vast majority of users have to rely on the ignore button just because one guy refuses to stop being difficult. He's already been warned to quit "discussing" things in such a trollish way. While bans might not actually change him—or stop others from copying his act—the mods are going to start using other ways to sanction people who behave like this.

Anyway, that's basically all the NYT mods have to say about this whole mess.

I don't see it, and honestly, I doubt any single moderator on this forum is glued to their screen every second of the day either. I see the reports coming in, and I just react to whatever looks like it actually needs a response.
