Jeffrey Fisher61 said:It’s been years since I last sat down for a Bergman flick, so I am totally digging this selection!

Gonna give this Movie a rewatch tomorrow afternoon.

Man, I'm actually planning on catching that one tomorrow afternoon too. 👍

Edit: I laid everything out in post # 40 if anyone is still scratching their heads about anything.

Jamie Nelson10 said:So, where are we actually at with this? Are we finally diving into a discussion about Seven Deadly Sins, or are we all just sitting around waiting for the three-day rule to kick in so everyone else can catch up?

Look, if nobody chimes in within the next 24 hours to let me know whether they’ve actually sat down and watched the Movie or not, I’m just gonna go ahead and start riffing on it myself! Is that okay with everyone? If I don't hear back, I'll just dive right into my thoughts and get the discussion rolling, so consider yourselves warned!

I'll go ahead and add that to the rules.

Edit: Looks like most of you haven't even checked this one out yet, so I guess we’ll just hold off on the deep dive until everyone's had a chance to watch it!

I can't believe I'm actually sitting here typing this out, but honestly, where do we even start with this whole situation? It feels like one of those moments where you just have to take a massive breath and look at the big picture, right? You know what I mean? Everything is moving so fast lately, and sometimes it feels like we're all just spinning our wheels without any real direction. Is it just me, or does it feel like everyone is constantly looking for some kind of shortcut to success instead of just putting in the actual work? Like, why is that? We see it everywhere, from the big corporations in New York to the small startups in Austin, it's like this obsession with the "get rich quick" mentality that just ignores the foundation of everything. It’s exhausting! And don't even get me started on how much noise there is online nowadays—everyone has an opinion, everyone is shouting, but how much of it is actually worth listening to? I was thinking about this the other day while I was just hanging out, and it really struck me how much we value the flashy stuff over the substance. Don't we crave something more real? Something a bit more grounded? I truly believe that if we just slowed down for a second and focused on building things that actually last, we wouldn't be feeling so burnt out all the time. But hey, maybe I'm just being overly optimistic or something, who knows? Just my two cents, anyway! kaže:
My bad for not dropping more Movies in earlier! I totally missed that bit about the three-day rule, so if you guys need me to throw out a few more titles to make up for it, just say the word—I'm more than happy to keep them coming! 👍

Look, I’m just gonna lay out the rules here again, since they’re basically the same ones from the intro post anyway. There’s really no need to go dumping a whole bunch of movies on us right now; you already threw "Seven Deadly Sins" out there, and that’s the one we’re all sticking to for the next seven days, so let's just focus on that for now. We haven't even gotten to the part where we actually vote on whether we want to include more movies or not, right? So yeah, let's just keep it simple and stick to the plan!

I can't believe we're actually doing this, right? Like, seriously, where do we even start with a topic this heavy? I feel like I could sit here and talk about this for hours because there’s just so much to unpack, but let's just dive straight into the deep end! Isn't it wild how much everything changes depending on who you ask? It's honestly kind of crazy when you really stop to think about it. Anyway, I'm just throwing this out there, but what do you guys actually think? Is it all just noise, or is there something real beneath the surface? I'm dying to hear everyone's take on this! kaže:
I haven't actually sat down to watch it yet, though I'm totally down to give it a go! Honestly, though, everything about it feels like a massive blur right now... does that make sense? I'm just sitting here feeling completely lost before I even hit play!🤷☕

What part of this isn't clicking for you? I laid out all the rules right there in the intro post, including that one new tweak the moderator just tacked on today—which, by the way, only happened because I asked him to since they won't let me edit my own posts anymore. Seriously, if you just actually read what’s being written in the threads, wouldn't everything be a lot simpler? #31 Look, I really feel like I’ve laid it all out there, haven't I? I've pretty much covered every single angle and spilled everything there is to say!

So, here’s the deal—I’m dropping the rules from that first intro post along with post #31, just so everyone’s on the same page about where we currently stand!

cosmiclynx57 said:Weekly film

Rules.:
So, I’ve been sitting here thinking about what we should actually go with for our Weekly film, and honestly, I’m dying to know what you guys think! What kind of masterpiece are we feeling this time around? Give me your best shots!
So, just a heads-up for everyone—the Weekly film drops every single Friday right at midnight! That means if you're staying up late on Thursday night, you'll be ready to go as soon as the clock strikes twelve. Don't miss it!
Look, if you're the one who posted the movie, you don't just get to dump another one up immediately, right? You actually have to sit tight and wait for at least thirty days before you can post again!
Look, I really feel like if a massive blockbuster drops and it seems like nobody has actually sat down to watch it yet, we should probably just chill for a couple of days? Like, why rush into a heated debate when most people haven't even seen the thing? It makes way more sense to wait for that two or three-day window so everyone can catch a screening first, and then—only then—can we actually get a real discussion going, right?
So, just a heads-up for everyone watching the clock—if a bunch of you happen to drop your posts at the exact same time, like if multiple people try to post their Weekly film within that same minute, the system basically just picks whoever hit "submit" first. It’s purely a race to the finish line! The forum registers that first person as the winner, so their Weekly film becomes the official pick, and unfortunately, everyone else's post just won't count. Isn't it wild how much a single second can matter? Just a little tip to keep things smooth!

cosmiclynx57 said:That’s the deal for now.

Over the next 7 days, if everyone—or even just most of you—is down with the suggestion made by our friend facersplaca, then I’m totally going to make it official:

Yeah, basically, starting at midnight, the first five movies suggested will go straight to a vote, and we'll set a specific timeframe for that voting to happen.
It adds this awesome competitive edge, don't you think? Because I bet a ton of people are gonna be rushing to suggest something right at midnight, but only the ones the thread picks as the top five actually make it to the ballot. And yeah, everyone gets one shot to suggest a movie.

When I really sit back and chew on it, it’s actually a killer idea, but hey, there's no rush, right? We've been moving along nice and steady, and if you guys feel like this is the better way to go—which, honestly, I’m leaning toward too—then we'll bake this whole voting thing into the official rules for next time. 😉

So, that's where things stand for the moment, like I said, so let me know what you think over the next week. Some of you have already chimed in, but tell me: do you want us to start implementing this "top 5 movie vote" rule starting next Friday? 👍
Movie week in Movies ·
Jerry Martinez50 said:Honestly, I'm totally down for doing five movies! Why not, right?😁

Sweet, first vote is officially in the bag! 🙂

So, have you actually sat down and watched The Seventh Seal by Ingmar Bergman yet?
Look, if you haven't seen this yet—and I mean seriously, if you haven't sat down and watched it—I am officially calling you out! We need to get a group watch session on the calendar. We should probably nail down a specific day and time, though honestly, even just picking a day would be a solid start. Who's in?
Movie week in Movies ·
Matthew Anderson4 said:Wait, hold on—are we picking from a bunch of different titles, or is this the final lineup? (And hey, don't get me wrong, I’ve got nothing against Bergman!)

That's the plan.

For now, anyway.

Over the next 7 days, if everyone—or even just most of you—is down with the suggestion made by our friend Face, then I’m officially adopting it:

Edward Price6 said:Yeah, exactly! Starting at midnight, the first five movies suggested will go up for a vote, and the voting period will run for a set amount of time.
It adds a little competitive edge too, right? Because I bet a ton of people are going to be scrambling to drop their suggestions right at midnight, but only the ones that the thread accepts as the top five will actually make it to the ballot. And yeah, keep it fair—everyone gets one suggestion.

Now that I've had a second to sit with it, I think it's actually a great idea. We've been moving along pretty steadily without rushing things, but if you guys think this is the better way to go—and honestly, I'm starting to lean that way too—then we'll bake this new rule right into the official guidelines for next time. 😉
Movie week in Movies ·
Oh man, I love this! Honestly, what's even better is that I haven't actually sat down and watched it yet! 😁

👍Edit: I’ve actually got this movie sitting right on my shelf, and I’ve been procrastinating on watching it for ages because it seems like every single person I talk to has already seen it, you know? So, seeing this is basically the perfect nudge I needed to finally get around to it.
Movie week in Movies ·
bluebadger14 said:So, here I am, wide awake at midnight... again.😉

Put that revolver away, Mr. Eastwood, because we’re heading straight into a high-noon showdown at midnight! 😉

Jeffrey Fisher61 said:So, I’ve got one more thing on my mind—are we gonna start opening up some new threads just to keep things from getting too cluttered, or are we all just gonna keep cramming everything into this one single thread?

Nah, honestly, there's really no need for all that.

ruggedfox28 said:It would probably look something like this, just with a few minor tweaks here and there. 😬

Haha, what a total circus. Seriously, look at the thread title—it says "movie week," not "movies week." How do you even mess that up?
So, look, when I mentioned that I was totally down to take some suggestions and shake up the rules, I didn't actually mean I was going to flip everything I had planned on its head! Though, I did end up tweaking one specific rule because Amata came through with such a killer suggestion—you can check out the update in the rules, where we switched things over to 7 days out of 30. Plus, I added a brand new rule that another member suggested, which I think is honestly genius: if nobody has watched a movie yet, we get a three-day grace period. Isn't that just perfect?

So, when I first kicked off the "movie day" thread, it was like a total toss-up, right? Half of you guys were totally feeling it, while the other half were pretty much against the idea. But then, once things got moving, nobody even brought up any other movies anymore! Everyone just jumped straight into talking about the single movie of the week instead of discussing all the different options we had lined up for the week. What happened to that variety, huh?
Look, I’m just putting this movie out there, so let's not turn this into some massive circus of constant debating and endless back-and-forth, alright? If we start overthinking every single suggestion, we're gonna end up in a loop where someone's pick gets overlooked forever because everyone's too busy nitpicking. We’ve gotta keep things fair—everyone deserves a shot at having their recommendation actually get picked, don't you think? Let's just keep it chill and give everyone an equal chance!

cosmiclynx57 said:Movie week!

Alright, listen up everyone! Before we dive deep into all the discussions and get carried away, we really need to go over the ground rules for this community. We want this place to be awesome for everyone, right? So, let's make sure we're all playing by the same playbook so things stay chill and fun. If we don't have some basic structure, things can get messy fast, and nobody wants that. Just take a second to look through everything so we can keep the vibes high and the debates healthy. Sound good? Let's get into it!:

So, I was just sitting here thinking about what we should dive into next, and I figured it’s finally time to pull the trigger and announce our official movie week pick! Does anyone have any wild guesses? I've been dying to share this one with you all, so without further ado, here is the big reveal for our upcoming movie week title...
So, just a heads-up for everyone following along—movie week kicks off every single Friday right at midnight! That means we're actually talking about those late-night Thursday vibes, you know? It’s that transition from Thursday night into Friday morning, so make sure you're ready to go!
Look, if you're the one who uploads the movie, you don't get to just turn around and post another one immediately, right? You actually have to sit tight and wait out a full 30 days before you can drop another one.
Look, if we’re talking about a movie that basically nobody—or at least most of the group—has actually sat down to watch yet, shouldn't we just hold our horses for a couple of days? I mean, wouldn't it be way better to give everyone a chance to actually catch the flick before we dive headfirst into a massive discussion? Why rush into it all at once when we could just wait a few days so more people can get up to speed? It just feels like the move, right?

Honestly, I’d say let’s just leave everything exactly as it is for now—keep it simple and totally fine for getting things off the ground. Why go overboard right away? We can see how things flow first, and if we really need to polish the whole thread up later, we can do some light tweaking instead of doing the massive overhaul you're suggesting. Let's just play it by ear, right?

-

And hey, for whoever decides to drop the movie week pick at midnight, just do us all a favor and pick something actually worth talking about! We need something that’ll give us plenty to chew on for the next seven days, 👍

Edit: Just added a quick new rule—if a couple of people happen to hit "post" at the exact same time or try to drop their movie picks simultaneously, the forum's timestamp wins. Whoever the system registers as being first is the one whose movie week choice sticks.
Movie week in Movies ·
That sounds alright to me, but honestly, it feels a bit overcomplicated, so how about we go with this much simpler solution instead:
We could just implement a super straightforward rule where someone posts either 3 or 5 movies from totally different genres, and then we get a 24-hour window to vote on them. After a few minutes, I'll just tally up the votes and that winning pick becomes our movie week selection.

Just a heads-up, I don't have the permissions to edit my own posts anymore, so I’m going to have to reach out to the moderator to get this rule officially added.
Also, I suggest we just hold off on making any more changes for the first week (7 days), because for a start, these rules are already more than enough and honestly pretty great. I really don't want to be that guy constantly bugging the moderators, you know? Let's give everyone 7 days or so to sit with it, think things over, and then we can let the moderator know so she can update everything in a flash.

Edward Price6 said:Yeah, exactly—starting at midnight, those first five suggested movies go up for a vote, and the voting lasts for a set amount of time.
It adds this awesome competitive edge too, because you know a ton of people are gonna be racing to post their picks right at midnight, but only the ones the thread accepts as the first five actually make it to the vote. And yeah, everyone gets to suggest one.

See, that's exactly what I'm talking about! Nice one, Face! 👍

Edit: My bad, I misread that. I didn't mean every single forum member suggests 3 or 5 films; I meant someone posts a small batch like 3 or 5, and then we vote like I described above. That way, if someone manages to be the very first person at midnight, they aren't just shouting into the void—they've basically guaranteed their pick is the movie week choice, plus it gives the rest of us the bonus of choosing between five solid options.

Let's all get on the same page first, and then I'll hit up the moderator to get the rule posted. Who's in?

Jeffrey Fisher61 said:It would also be a great idea if we could set a specific window to actually watch the movie. Like, if someone picks a flick that most of us haven't seen yet, let's give everyone a realistic deadline—maybe three days? I think three days is plenty of time for anyone to squeeze in one movie, and then on the fourth day, we can all jump in and start the discussion.

I actually brought this up in my intro post too! I thought it was such a solid idea and a perfect rule to have: if the majority of us (or even the whole group) hasn't seen a certain movie, let's pick something new so we can all watch it together before we dive into the comments.

Man, you hit the nail on the head with that suggestion, and I totally gave you props for it in my opening post 👍 just check down at the bottom and you'll see 😉

goldenhound32 said:I mean, seriously, why on earth would we wait until midnight just to kick off the first movie? 😕

Man, total classic, right? Haha! I knew it—it’s like if I say, "Hey, let's just dive in right now at 5:00 PM," someone's gonna be like, "Well, why not wait until 8:00 PM or 10:00 PM then?" 😂
Back when we were talking about movie day, people were asking, "Why start at 5:00 AM instead of noon?" 🤣

Look, we gotta start eventually, right? Does the specific hour really matter that much?
The reason I set it for midnight was just so people would actually notice this thread exists in the first place.

Plus, I wanted to be fair to everyone. By midnight, more folks will have seen the thread and actually have a chance to pick the first movie. If we had jumped the gun at 5:00 PM, it would’ve just been us five or whoever happens to be lurking here right now who could've started it. I figured it’s better to give as many people as possible a shot at picking the first movie of the week, you know? It just feels fairer so nobody can complain that we rushed into it without waiting a few hours. Besides, what's the rush, right? We aren't exactly racing against a clock here.
Movie week in Movies ·
bluebadger14 & Amata, chill out everyone, everything is totally fine. 😉

Amata actually came up with a killer suggestion—that whoever posts a movie shouldn't be allowed to set a 30-day lockout (I originally said 7 days, my bad!) just so someone else can get a turn, so I went ahead and changed that right away.

Look, just because I'm the one who started this thread doesn't mean I think I'm some kind of big shot or the boss of this whole thing, okay? I didn't start this just to hog the spotlight; I did it so we could all hang out and talk, which means everyone gets a say, and if we all decide the rules need an update—even if we've been running things since 2013—then we change them! 👍
Movie week in Movies ·
Jeffrey Fisher61 said:I don't really agree with the rules as they stand

If we see enough interest in this topic—say at least 20 active members, which I honestly think we can hit— then we should probably have a rule where if you nominate a movie week once, you can't nominate another one for the rest of the month.

That feels way more fair, right? Because otherwise, someone could just post every other week, and that’s kind of silly; we need to make sure everyone gets a fair shot at bringing their pick into the conversation.

Also, it would be awesome if we set a specific window for actually watching the movie. Like, if someone picks a flick most of us haven't seen yet, we should have a realistic deadline—maybe three days? I feel like three days is plenty of time for people to squeeze in a movie, and then on the fourth day, the big discussion kicks off.

And hey, I totally welcome anyone who might have a different take or a different perspective on these suggestions to speak up!

You've got a point there, so you're right, I'm gonna change my mind on that. 👍

I'm on board with the three-day idea too, but honestly, let's just hash those details out within the thread itself instead of trying to bake them into the official rules right away. We can just suggest things like, "Hey guys, let's all watch this over the next two days so we can spend five days talking about it," and go from there.

I definitely agree that everyone needs to chime in so we can make this thread better, but let's just ease into it, okay? Once we get a rhythm going, I can easily reach out to the moderator to tweak any rules we end up deciding on together, you feel me? 😉

Movie Week

So, this thread is kind of a cousin to the Movie Day thread, but it’s actually pretty different, and since I noticed a good chunk of you guys were asking about it, I figured I’d just go ahead and get it started.

The distinction here is actually pretty huge, okay? See, the whole idea behind Movie Day is basically to save some forum space and give everyone a quick way to blow off steam. If someone wants to jump in and chat about some random old Bud Spencer flick, they don't have to start a whole new thread; they just hit up Movie Day and boom—you get your fix within 24 hours.
Now, Movie Week isn't that fast-paced or snappy like Movie Day, but it still helps keep the forum organized while giving us all a chance to actually coordinate which movie we’re watching on a specific day, and even better, we can hang out and talk about it afterward, which you just can't really do with the Movie Day setup. That’s the big difference right there.

The name pretty much speaks for itself, doesn't it? Basically—you just drop the title of the movie you want to be the featured pick for the week, and for the next seven days, that’s what we’ll be talking about. It’s as simple as that.
Now, to make sure this doesn't turn into total chaos, we need a few ground rules to keep things running smoothly. This whole thing officially kicks off tonight at midnight (which would be 12:00 AM on 11/11/2010), and whoever posts the movie tonight gets us through the next seven days—meaning until next Friday. We'll keep that cycle going every Friday at midnight (just to be clear, that's Thursday night turning into Friday morning) until the next Friday rolls around.
Also, I don't think it’s fair if the same person keeps grabbing the spotlight every single week, you know? So, I think a fair rule would be that once you pick the Movie of the Week, you’ve gotta wait 30 days before you can suggest another one. That way, we don't end up with one person being the "fastest trigger finger" who always snags the spot; you post once, wait a month, and then you can jump back in once everyone else has had their fair shot.

A few suggestions—on the Movie Week thread, we can actually coordinate so that if most of us haven't seen the chosen film, we watch it together and then dive into a big discussion afterward. We could even try to schedule a time to watch it all at once! It's all about working together. Also, a great idea—and I have to give a shout-out to Amata for thinking of this—is that if someone picks a movie that almost nobody has seen, let's give everyone a 2-3 day grace period to actually watch it before we start the heavy discussion. I mean, two or three days should be plenty of time to download a movie and find a moment to sit down and watch it, right?
I'm totally open to more ideas if you guys want to help make this thread even better.

-

Like I mentioned above, but just to lay it all out clearly, here are the rules:

- Just post the title of the movie you want to be our Movie of the Week.
- The new movie gets posted every Friday at 00:00 (so, technically late Thursday night).
- Once you've picked a movie, you're sidelined for 30 days before you can pick again.
- If the movie is something most people haven't seen, we wait 2-3 days for everyone to catch up before starting the discussion.
- In the event that multiple people try to post the movie at the exact same time, the person whose post hits the server first is the winner, and their choice is the official movie for the week.
