American songs in English in Music ·
Gibo's English album actually includes several tracks he had already recorded in his native language.

It truly stood out as one of his finest performances—that "failed" tour of his.

A tiny little town 31 miles near Frankfurt. There were maybe only 100 people there. Yet, Gibo had his six-piece band plus three additional musicians playing the saxophone and trumpet.

It was an absolutely stellar show, despite the small crowd and the fact that the following night's concert had been canceled by the promoters due to poor ticket sales.🙂

The level of interaction was even more intense than usual, and I suspect all 100 attendees will cherish that "intimate" encounter as something truly special.
Chris Myers said:In my opinion, this poll should have included solo artists alongside the bands. There are plenty of performers who could easily fit into either category—think of folks like Bajaga and his instructors, Balašević and The Beatles, or Goran Bare and his group, for instance.

To be honest, I'm also scratching my head over why individual artists weren't listed.

A song is a song, whether it was performed by a soloist or a full band.

Even though I don't follow every single act, I'd argue that someone like Oliver galeb deserves a spot in a poll like this. It feels much more natural than suggesting "olive being undefended," which belongs to an a cappella group—and isn't an a cappella group basically just another type of group?🤔🤔
Playback in Music ·
Sophia Wells72 said:I can only tolerate lip-syncing if there’s an accident, an illness, or some unexpected disaster with someone's voice—but a live performance is meant to be it. Come on, man, just show up and give it everything you've got.

Even then, because at that point, it's already a planned, recorded playback. If you don't plan for it, you won't have it.
I think it's obvious to anyone who has watched Pink, Britney Spears, Madonna, etc., that they might need partial playback during certain points when they are acting more like athletes or dancers. But honestly, they could just include an extended instrumental section in the song instead. Why should Madonna have to do it the whole time if ten or twelve backup dancers are jumping around?

I also find it silly when synth-heavy Bands have a live Drummer while everyone else relies on drum machines. I feel like that sometimes goes against the genre and the spirit of the music. Either play it live, or if there isn't a drummer in the group, don't bother having one live.

Since I didn't want to start a whole new thread, I wanted to ask your opinion on this:
The current tour by Morten Harket.
The posters say "The Voice of A-ha," and tickets in Germany are a whopping 70 Euros, yet he doesn't sing a single song by A-ha! What are your thoughts on that?
Local hits for the nightclub in Music ·
It seems you are planning a Studio 54 for the older crowd.
The music selection feels like a classic American New Wave 80s party.
As someone who has spent quite a bit of time working as a DJ Diane at international 80s parties over in Europe, I want to tell you that while the concept isn't bad, I think you'll find it difficult to fill a Nightclub consistently enough to keep it running more than two days a week.

Despite all the excitement, you have to realize that the clientele visiting your Nightclub will likely be at least 35+. This means they have kids, careers, and other responsibilities; unlike the 20-year-olds, hitting the town every single weekend isn't their top priority—they might only come out once every month or two. However, when this crowd does go out, they naturally spend more, and they tend to be more appreciative of the music because they love hearing something from their "glory days"!

But honestly, I’m not sure what you plan to do with all those remixes of old tracks that sound like modern songs?
In my opinion, that hits neither mark. There are very few actually good remixes of old classics, and instead of getting excited, your older crowd will probably just wonder how the original was ruined.

I would personally suggest that you don't mix so many different styles together, like
and I want the repertoire before midnight to be foreign techno, house, and such, and then switch to local stuff after.

Why not try themed nights such as:
New Wave 80s
80s American hits
80s American and international hits
90s American and international hits
Eurodance
Eurodance Crossover
and so on. (Each night could have its own theme, allowing the audience to choose. You could run stronger themes on the weekends and lighter ones during the week; even if you want to stay open every day, maybe throw in some alternative music on a Monday or something similar.)

If you mix too many genres and create a hard shift in the middle of the night, you're going to lose the people who were dancing before midnight! Meanwhile, the other group will just be bored waiting until late to finally hear "their music."

Just imagine going to a concert where the opening act is The Prodigy and the headliner is Pitbull. How many people in the front row do you think would flee immediately after The Prodigy finished? And how many Pitbull fans would say the next day, "Man, after all that noise, my head hurt so much I couldn't even enjoy Pitbull anymore"!

Kudos to you for the idea and the idealistic vision, but I suspect you'll eventually see that your personal taste might not align with the majority of your patrons. Just because you enjoy that kind of Crossover doesn't mean the masses will.

I truly wish you lots of luck and success in making your dreams a reality.
But it’s always wise to have a Plan B!

Perhaps it would be a strategic move for PBS to sell the 2014 rights to a private network. A private broadcaster might develop a much more engaging format from the event, allowing both parties to turn a profit while ensuring PBS secures an immediate influx of capital. Furthermore, by 2015, they could potentially learn from those private entities how to better scout talent or, at the very least, how to monetize the broadcast more effectively.

It still seems necessary for us to participate; after all, we are a major tourist destination, and just like any other nation, we have a responsibility to showcase our local beauty. To remain invisible on this stage is to risk letting other countries claim a larger slice of the pie.

Regarding the musical suggestions involving Thompson, I suspect his style would have fared much better than last year's entry. It would have stood out against the crowd, potentially earning us some much-needed points.
Sharknado (2013) in Movies ·
This film is such absolute trash that Syfy has already aired it three times, yet the viewership numbers just keep climbing. DVD orders are through the roof, and they’ve actually greenlit a sequel.
I guess we have a cult classic on our hands already! 🙂🙂

The movie is a blast, provided you're having a few drinks for every Shark flying through the air! 🤷
What was the first band you truly loved? in Music ·
My first band was actually a trio.
As a five or six-year-old kid, I always found myself gravitating toward more complex melodies and layered lyrics rather than just simple, one-note tunes.

da, da, da du liebst micht nicht, ich lieb dich nicht! 😂😂
analogbear40 said:If there are any other music lovers out there who enjoy a solid megamix—you know, those extended 12" versions of 80s hits blended into one long-form set—just so you know, we actually have a highly skilled and current DJ right here on the forums, Rebecca Flores33, who puts these together effortlessly. 😁

Some might assume that because she’s a die-hard Duran Duran fan, she only sticks to their catalog, but that couldn't be further from the truth. 🙂

The track selection in her mix is incredibly diverse... ranging from disco staples like "Good Times" to old-school hip-hop gems like "Rapper's Delight," plus all those 80s essentials from Propaganda to Frankie Goes to Hollywood and plenty more. 😉

Send me your Venmo info so I can pay you for this stellar promotion! 😂😂

Seriously though, if anyone else wants a listen, just reach out! 😍
Wow, analogbear40, what a topic we have here!
I’m already familiar with most of these, but I’ve certainly stumbled upon some new gems along the way.

Allow me to contribute a few of my personal favorites:

In this specific instance, the album version actually runs longer than the 12", and the track itself is just an absolute beast in terms of length.

Santa Esmeralda - Don´t let me be misunderstood

Of course, I can't leave out the ZTT catalog.
I'd specifically highlight this one:
FGTH - The Power of Love (extended)
There is even a longer version out there that is incredibly rare; it captures the full essence of the song perfectly.

And speaking of 12" singles, we shouldn't overlook this:
FGTH - Rage hard (a young person´s guide to the 12"
It is quite frankly wild.

Back then, 12" records were often marketed as "SUPER SOUND SINGLES."
The reason behind that branding was actually quite simple: they offered a much more dynamic sound profile.

Since we are discussing legendary remixers, I find myself missing the great Ben Liebrand.
He produced a minimalist yet absolutely stellar remix:
Phil Collins - In the air tonight (Ben Liebrand Remix)

As well as

Sting - Englishman in New York (Ben Liebrand Remix)

Beyond the Depeche Mode tracks already mentioned,
the Pet Shop Boys also released some exceptionally high-quality 12" versions.
PSB - Heart (dance Mix)
Which, once again, was handled by Pettibone!

Goodness, all this talk has actually inspired me to try putting together a little 12" mix of my own.😂
People will be left speechless when they see how Kimi Räikkönen handled that car! 😂😂😂

Once someone loses your respect, is there any coming back? in Psychology & Therapy ·
This is how I would look at it:

Imagine you have a favorite coffee mug—the one you reach for every single morning because it just feels right.
Then, one day, you drop it, and it cracks.

Sure, you can try to glue it back together, but it’s never going to be the same. You’ll always be walking on eggshells, worrying that it might split wide open when you pour hot coffee into it, or worse, that a sharp shard might cut you while you're washing it.

That crack represents the breach of trust with that person; once it happens, things are fundamentally altered.
The scar remains, and it isn't going anywhere.
The more important that person was to you originally, the deeper that scar will feel.

You won't be able to act the same way around them or truly relax anymore. It’s the moment you have to ask yourself if you even want to maintain the relationship, knowing deep down that the old dynamic is gone for good. Eventually, you'll realize the vibe has shifted permanently.

Your dream was simply a reflection of how much this has already permeated your subconscious and how deeply you've been wounded.

In my opinion, there is no going back. You might stay friendly and they can remain one of many acquaintances, but that special connection you once shared? That is lost forever.

Samuel White7 said:Harold Wright8, please, just stop talking because you aren't helping anyone here. It really isn't as simple as just saying, "Grab a book and start studying," you know?

And Michael Roberts7, if your husband was hitting you, then leaving him was absolutely the right call. Nobody has the right to treat you like that. But now, from what I can gather, it sounds like your mother might be one of those people who holds onto those old-school views where a wife is supposed to just endure whatever her husband throws at her because he's the "head of the household" and all that nonsense.
Well, you know how it goes—you meet a hundred different people, you get a hundred different versions of reality, and let's face it, none of us were blessed with perfect mothers.

I also spent years suffering, bowing to the subtle pressure of everyone around me and listening far too long to my mother’s "wisdom," such as
"Marriage is sacred," paired with "Every Marriage is just a pile of crap covered in honey; it all depends on how much you lick it before you eventually hit the mess."

It wasn't until I hit rock bottom that I finally woke up.
I ended up in the hospital because he beat me so badly that I lost my baby.

As for Harold Wright8, my mother’s response was simply: "Oh, just make peace with him; maybe that's just how God wanted it, maybe the baby was sick and it's better this way," and "If it's meant to be, you'll get pregnant again and you can have children together."

Harold Wright8 said:you're starting to get insulting 😉 but whatever. I don't have a problem with myself and I haven't said anything bad to the girl. I'm just saying she needs to chill out because she's clearly stressed. My mom raised me the best she could and I'm grateful to her. I don't drink, I don't do drugs, and I don't insult people 🙂 . Read what I wrote above—I told her that making mistakes is part of life, to calm down, study, and things will get better...
I don't know why everyone is attacking me...
peace

Actually, I feel insulted by you first!
You aren't giving me the right to have my own opinion!
You claim I have no right to doubt anything, yet you don't even know me or my mother!

It would be just like you telling me, "My girlfriend cheated on me," and me responding, "She was right," without having any clue what actually happened.

Has your mother ever said things to you like the ones I listed in my post at 1:04, or like what Samuel White7 said in his post at 00:51!

If not, then it's perfectly reasonable and fair for you to defend your mother, but not everyone is like her!

Quentin Tarantino:
I don't care about your comment.
And why is it that you supposedly don't care about anyone else's comment?
a) You're offended by something that doesn't even interest you.
b) You're being narrow-minded, since you only offer one comment and ignore everyone else's! Have you ever heard of equality?

Samuel White7 said:Has it ever happened to you guys where one of your parents would just constantly hit you with those "you're stupid" or "you're useless" comments, like they were reading from a script? And yet, for some reason, you can't even wrap your head around a single time they actually said something decent or encouraging instead?

It happens to me all the time, and honestly, I get it way milder than this!
"It’s your fault I’m sick...
You're the only thing I have to worry about...
I couldn't even sleep because of you...
I spent my nights praying for you...
and so on."

And all this just because I chose to end my Marriage after being abused by my husband!
The expectation was that I should just shut up and take it. Even when I finally managed to get the church to annul the union, my mother—who trusts any local priest more than her own child—refused to accept it.

Harold Wright8 said:You don't get to question that. Even when a mother yells at you, she's doing it because she cares. Sure, she might get pissed off about some random nonsense—whatever, that's just life.

So, according to your logic, just because she gave birth to me, she has the right to completely crush my spirit or even kill me? Because supposedly, she's doing it all for my own good!

I honestly believe a mother who blames and criticizes everything about someone is actually dealing with her own deep-seated issues or her own life struggles. And frankly, I think you might be struggling too, because this way of thinking is just extreme. Some people are extremists regarding their faith, but you've become an extremist regarding your mother!
Did she drill this mindset into your head while you were growing up, or did something happen between you two that left you unable to make peace before it was too late, leaving you with such a bitter perspective and a heavy conscience?
