Uncle (2022) in Movies ·
I caught a screening at the local cinema, followed by an interview with some up-and-coming directors.

The filmmaking was top-tier—really—and I honestly couldn't find a single flaw. It’s such an unconventional piece of American cinema, and it’s still sitting with me.

SPOILER ALERT!!!
Regarding the ending—the directors explained that they sing the very song that tormented them, serving as one final, pathological legacy from their uncle. They sing it in unison because, despite being a fractured family throughout the film, they find this last moment of connection (though, again, quite pathological).

amberfox7 said:Garbura is nothing more than a conventional, stereotypical chamomile—even a washed-up "bolimek" like Sviličić would have managed to squeeze out a shred of nuance or actual innovation from this. I get why people gravitate toward the intimacy and emotion of S. Place—even if half the movie feels like a collection of standard American indie tropes: dry dialogue, occasional petty middle-class boredom, and mediocre acting from the supporting cast—or perhaps they're just enamored by Uncle's technical execution (though let's be honest, the film falls apart after the first third). To me, though, Garbura is just a modernized repetition of the worst elements found in Sviličić’s or Ogrest’s work.

Well, I have to disagree. I actually found Garbura quite easy to watch—it had a great balance of comedy and tragedy. It was simple, unpretentious... just a good movie. It never felt boring to me, and it actually told several stories at once—from the deconstruction of a family to the nature of friendship. In fact, I found it somewhat difficult to watch because the comedy makes you feel the underlying sadness and tragedy even more deeply. They handled that beautifully—and credit where it's due to our young directors; it seems we have plenty of talent emerging.

And I can't agree regarding Uncle either—as the story progressed, it became increasingly engaging. It definitely didn't fall apart; rather, it built momentum quite effectively. A top-tier film! As for S. Place, I can only offer praise—it’s a truly raw, stripped-back film where you don't just watch, you feel.

In short, this is a brilliant American film—one that actually made me believe there's a future for American cinema.

It’s simple, raw, and completely stripped down.

I even caught an interview with the director discussing his process, which only added more depth to the experience.

Honestly, there's hope for the American film industry. After seeing Uncle's work, and then Garbura—mostly films from newer directors—I'm feeling quite optimistic.
Looking for a specialist... in Health ·
Does anyone have a recommendation for a proctologist regarding anal fissures? — I've seen Dr. Ivanovic, Kekez, Ratancic, and Lastric in the past, but honestly, none of them really met my expectations. I know about Dr. Fila, but I was wondering if there are any other reliable, high-quality specialists out there?
Dealing with hemorrhoids – any advice? in Health ·

Thanks for the reply. I didn't realize we all essentially deal with internal hemorrhoids—it just depends on whether they're behaving or not—but I read up on that later.

By the way, I received a recommendation for Dr. Ivanović here; while he is pleasant enough, his examination was quite rough—so much so that he aggravated the fissures I've been treating for weeks, leaving me in pain for days now. He also rushed through the appointment just to chat with another doctor in the room. I definitely wouldn't go back to him.

If anyone has a recommendation for a high-quality proctologist, please let me know. So far, I've seen Dr. Kekez, Dr. Ivanović, and Dr. Ratancic—but none of them actually resolved my issue or gave me their full attention. I don't mind paying for quality service.

What does it actually mean when a report mentions orderly internal hemorrhoids...?

My proctologist (Dr. Ivanović over at Mayo Clinic) told me everything looks fine—just that I have a minor fissure (which, honestly, has been lingering for six months now)—but now I’m reading this part about hemorrhoids on my results that he didn't even bring up. Why the confusion?

As someone who lives for American Idol, this was such a great little film—I am already crossing my fingers for a sequel!

Some of those scenes actually gave me chills—it felt just like watching the live broadcast of The Grammy Awards.

I absolutely love the whole vibe of the show; I can't wait to see what happens next year. 🙂

This looks like it’s going to be an entertaining film—much like the competition itself. It should serve as excellent PR for Eurovision, which honestly remains the greatest show ever made, don't you think?😎

It’s not even the old Eurovision or Will Ferrell we used to know, right?

Based on the trailer, the humor feels just as bad as that Sherlock Holmes disaster from a few years back.

I can't speak to Ferrell's take—but honestly, hasn't Eurovision reached an all-time high in terms of popularity? It’s become quite the phenomenon, isn't it? The most-watched non-sporting event on the planet, pulling in "only" about 200 million viewers every single year.😁

I absolutely love Eurovision—it’s easily my favorite time of year. As far as the movie goes, if nothing else, I'm just hoping for some solid marketing for Eurovision. Not that the contest actually needs the help, but still 😁
Hustlers (2019) - Wall Street Scammers in Movies ·
Such a tedious movie—the acting was just subpar. That whole buzz about an Oscar nod for Jennifer Lopez felt like nothing more than a PR stunt, really. It had no substance at all.

Why does it seem like these female-led films are so consistently underwhelming?
I’m struggling to even recall one that was remotely decent...
urbanrider8 said:It looks like we’re in for a real treat next year, because the hilarious Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are teaming up to host the Golden Globes

They were wonderful—really. While Ricky Gervais is certainly in a league of his own, wasn't their presence such a refreshing change of pace? I enjoyed them.

It’s an interesting blend of genres—but that’s really all there is to it. You watch it, and then you immediately forget you ever did. It feels much like most American films.
Losing my voice: What works? in Health ·
Honestly, I’ve been without my voice for four days now—it’s just completely gone. I have tried everything from throat lozenges and calcium supplements to honey, herbal teas, salt water rinses, and even black radish... but nothing seems to work. My throat doesn't actually hurt; it's just that the sound won't come out. I don't smoke, and I usually stick to natural juices and tea, so what could this even be?

Please help! This is the first time in my life I've ever dealt with anything like this.
I’ve been taking Qlairu for about three months now—and unfortunately, my period this month was roughly 15 days long, starting the day before yesterday and still going today, day 12. Is this actually normal?

It isn't exactly a heavy flow, per se, but there is enough bleeding that I have to change my pads constantly just to avoid leaking. I’m on this medication because of endometriosis—which I have to take—but now I’m starting to get genuinely worried.
American Honey (2016) in Movies ·
I’ve only caught the trailer so far—though honestly, nothing really seems to happen in it, and it comes off as a bit pretentious. I won't be too quick to judge, though—not until I actually sit down to watch it. If I even find the time—three hours is quite a commitment, isn't it?
I was watching this Canadian show on TV the other day, and they actually translated "Cry me a river" as "pay me a river"—it was honestly pretty hilarious.🤣

There are just so many literal translations like that out there—it’s honestly a mess, isn't it?
Scream (2013) in Movies ·
A complete waste of time that insults the viewer's intelligence—honestly? It’s predictable from start to finish, featuring some truly subpar acting throughout... anyone who actually considers themselves a horror fan should probably just label this as pure trash.
Golden Globes 2016 in Movies ·
I honestly think Leo is due for an Oscar this time—maybe even last year—since I felt M.M.'s performance was just okay, nothing out of the ordinary. It’s about time the whole drama between Leo and AMPAS finally reaches a resolution, isn't it? I really need to sit down and watch Spotlight; everything else I've seen lately has felt a bit... meh.

As for the Golden Globes 2016, I have to say Gervais was absolutely brilliant!😁
Golden Globes 2016 in Movies ·
Honestly, I don't think The Martian even deserves a nomination, let alone a win. It’s just... mediocre.
Blanchet was fantastic—she actually has a shot at taking home an award—but as for the men, I still need to see most of them. People are saying DiCaprio is the favorite this year; I really hope he finally gets one.

The only thing I'm actually looking forward to with these awards is Gervais. 🎉
