Man, you look so incredibly cool with that coffee in hand!
quietcobra said:I’ve been sitting here thinking about the lineup, and I can't help but feel that Coldplay might be a bit overhyped for a festival setting like Coachella. They have such a massive, sweeping sound that almost feels like it demands its own dedicated night at a venue like Madison Square Garden rather than being just another set on a crowded festival bill. I remember seeing them back in the day, and there was something so intimate yet grand about their performance that felt lost when you're surrounded by the chaos of a multi-stage event. It honestly feels like they should be headlining their own massive solo tour or a standalone stadium show where the focus stays entirely on them.

I have always found that there is a certain quiet magic in revisiting the classics, much like finding an old, leather-bound book in a dusty corner of a New York City library. It brings to mind those long, sun-drenched afternoons I spent wandering through different music festivals, just soaking in the atmosphere before the headliners took the stage. There is something deeply restorative about that sense of anticipation, isn't there? I was recently thinking back to some of my favorite live performances, specifically when I had the chance to see bands like Coldplay or even the high energy of the Foo Fighters. I remember sitting in the crowd, feeling that collective pulse of thousands of people all breathing in unison, waiting for that first chord to strike. It’s a feeling you can't quite replicate in your daily life, no matter how much you try to find stillness in the hustle and bustle of the city. I recall one particular evening at a massive outdoor festival—not unlike the vibe you'd get at Coachella—where the air was thick with the scent of summer rain and expensive espresso. We were waiting for the main act, and the conversation around us was just as vibrant as the music itself. It reminded me of a conversation I once had with dustyridge3 regarding the evolution of sound in modern production. We drifted through various topics, from the way acoustics change in a massive venue like Madison Square Garden to the sheer nostalgia of hearing a band like The Killers perform their greatest hits under a canopy of stars. There is a certain grace in how music evolves, moving from the raw, gritty energy of a group like System of a Down to the more polished, anthemic swells of a big band setting. It’s a journey, really—much like life itself. You encounter different rhythms, some chaotic and loud, others slow and contemplative, but they all contribute to the beautiful, complex melody of our existence. I truly believe that if we approach our days with that same appreciation for the shifting tempo, we might find a bit more peace amidst the noise. kaže:
It’s exactly the same situation as those bands mentioned in your previous post. 🙂

Do you ever get that feeling that the massive, stadium-filling bands just don't seem to hit quite the same way once they step onto a festival stage? I was sitting on my porch the other day, sipping some iced tea and thinking about how much the atmosphere changes when a group moves from a controlled concert setting to something like the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. There’s a certain magic to seeing a band like Coldplay or The Killers in a dedicated venue where everyone is there specifically for them, but at a huge festival, the energy feels so much more fragmented. It’s almost like the soul of the performance gets diluted by the sheer scale of the crowd and the constant distractions of the surrounding stages. I remember attending a large outdoor event a few years back—it was beautiful weather, very reminiscent of a perfect summer afternoon in Southern California—but even when a powerhouse like Foo Fighters took the stage, it felt less like an intimate musical experience and more like a spectacle designed to compete with the wind and the noise from the neighboring tents. I suppose it’s a bit of a trade-off. You get that incredible sense of community and the ability to see multiple legendary acts in one weekend, but you lose that deep, singular connection with the music that you get at a place like Madison Square Garden. It makes me wonder if those truly iconic performers actually prefer the intimacy of a tour over the chaos of the big festival circuit. What do you all think? Does the grandeur of a festival setup take away from the raw power of a great band? 😬
Personally, I would go with Muse. 🙂

And let’s be honest, a Radiohead set is something I can only dream about. 🤣

😁

I was speaking in general terms. I think what she’s actually missing isn't just the "old" LSE, but rather that entire era where things were tolerated that simply aren't allowed anymore.

Well, if that's the case, she should try being constructive and find some other way to have her fun.

Megan Hill13 said:LSE has always been a massive off-topic zone with the occasional educational thread thrown in, but now it feels like it's been sanitized under the thumb of totalitarians.

You know, if I had made a statement like that, I probably would have received a much harsher warning or even a full ban. 🙂
And yeah, what's the big deal with using damn emojis in posts? We used to build entire narratives around them back in the day.

They're tedious and add zero substance. Much like yourself.

Aaron Harris2 said:I... hollowmason64, I’m actually suggesting this myself—that we work together to make LSE more engaging and vibrant through our own contributions (if you’ll allow an ex-moderator of LSE to weigh in on that!). 😘

That is exactly my point. 👍

You complain that the vibe is off, but when you dig into the reasoning, what's the actual argument? Is it just that LSE isn't the place for some good old-fashioned banter anymore? Is that the issue, chat? 🙂

Why not try starting a fun, educational thread and show everyone that LSE can still be a blast, just in a higher quality way? Instead of just flooding the feed with endless posts full of nothing but emojis and "I agree" comments. 🙂

Not to you. 😁

Mark, I honestly think they’re one of a kind. To my mind, they haven't hit that stage where they just start recycling old tropes and running out of steam—which, let's face it, happens to almost every band once they've been around the block a few times. They still feel fresh. 😁

I'm not entirely sure how accurate that Hendrix comparison really is, since we're talking about a whole spectrum of different qualities here. Your example only touches on one specific thing. 😛 (I'm being literal, so yes 😳)
White Lies in Music ·
I’m not usually one to get into debates with people who don't quite grasp a good joke, but I suppose I can give this a shot.

The comparison exists simply because they shared an influence, and their lyrics often touch on similar themes.
As for you feeling personally attacked because you're such a (perhaps even fanatic?) Joy Division devotee—well, that sounds like a "you" problem.

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love Depeche Mode too; I think they are truly one of a kind ( 🤣 ), so it doesn't bother me at all when people draw parallels to them—not that most journalists actually mean anything by those comparisons anyway.

Are we going to go around setting Last.fm on fire now just because it provides recommendations labeled 'similar to'? 😲
White Lies in Music ·
I wasn't even thinking about Joy Division. 🙂

And honestly, I don't think he was trying to discredit them at all. Discredit them in what sense, exactly? 😬

swiftmaker20 said:This is a textbook example of how to completely tank your own credibility. 👍

I really hope you feel like he’s discredited himself here rather than the band. 😁

Because honestly, no matter how much people try to draw parallels to Joy Division (and sure, they have that certain Divisionist 😁 vibe), they just aren't actually that similar. Even if we just look at the tiny gap in timing—only about thirty years apart, nothing too crazy.

To my ears, there's really only one single track that shares any production qualities with them, and even that isn't even on their main album. 🤷

When it comes to the lyrical themes—you know, death, love, fear, and those fundamental things everyone ponders—there are plenty of bands out there who bumble through those topics much less successfully.

The real distinction between Joy Division and The White Stripes is that The White Stripes tend to write more generalized lyrics, moving away from that intense, self-destructive, and depressive edge. If we're going to be pedantic about it.

Maybe you're looking at a sanitized version? 😁 It wouldn't exactly be "sanitized" if the frontman started acting erratically on stage, collapsing from seizures, and eventually taking his own life. 😳

Now that the concert is officially in the books, I thought it was the perfect time to bump this thread back up to the top. 😬

Since 👋 just released their first single from the upcoming album, which was unnamed, I’ve been sitting here thinking about what should come next—personally, I’m really rooting for unnamed to be the follow-up. 😍

I know "Strangers" is an absolute standout too, but there's just something about this one that hits differently for me; it’s such a fantastic track, and honestly, hearing it performed live was a total highlight for me.

Oh, I actually ended up passing on it. I figured there would be plenty of other opportunities down the road, so I didn't feel the need to rush. 😢
Occasionally. 😁 It really is quite peculiar. I had actually assumed it was all being triggered by those sudden, sharp movements of the tongue. 🤷

Bringing this thread back to the top of the feed. 😁

I was wondering if anyone here has tried incorporating Spirulina into their daily routine specifically to give their immune system a little extra boost? I’d love to hear about your personal experiences—did you notice a real difference in how you felt? Also, if you have a go-to brand that you trust for quality, please let me know! 🙂

Honestly, he really needed someone to break it to him that the moderators are basically lab-grown specimens, and only the absolute elite models get promoted to admin status. 😬

Personally, I spent quite a bit of time in an incubator myself, which is exactly how I managed to land this moderator gig. 😬

I genuinely find a lot of satisfaction in tidying up titles 😍 and keeping things moderated just so the whole layout looks cleaner, more polished, and generally higher quality. Of course, there is also a certain thrill in handing out warnings or banning someone when I feel they are being a total idiot—that kind of thing 😁

For a little while, I actually entertained the idea that I might find a husband right here on the forum, 😢 but I eventually realized that simply wasn't going to happen.

And yes, I’ll admit it, I definitely get a little kick out of those admin sanctions. 🥳
