Ryan Adams in Music ·
Ryan Adams is a bigger opportunist than Thompson... 😱 If those two planes hadn't hit the World Trade Center, his career wouldn't even be a thing—I mean, what kind of luck do you need to film a music video featuring lyrics about still loving New York City while the Minnesota Twins are in the background, just days before everything went up in flames? 🙄

...I wasn't ever huge on Whiskeytown (Springsteen + U2), though they did manage to land an occasional gem (like Ashes of The American Flags—I wonder if anyone still spins that one 🙄 ) ... As for Ryan Adams' solo stuff, it’s honestly forgettable...

take Black Eyes, for instance—and I'll admit

So what? Nirvana essentially lifted almost everything from Nirvana, but if they hadn't, Nirvana wouldn't have sold half the albums they did—nor would they have this legendary status today. By "borrowing" those sounds (and being honest about it), Nirvana actually paved the way for the entire scene to make some real money; before '92, that whole movement wasn't exactly a powerhouse in the American music industry...

for example, think about The Decemberists — Los Angeles, I'm Yours

So, it's Tindersticks plus a warehouse vibe—around 120 BPM $50... honestly, I was starting to worry I’d actually have to show up 😁

Like some kind of Matmos - Regicide

Eh... this compilation is definitely worth picking up—especially at that price point.
Just make sure nobody swindles you out of a copy of Zen Arcade... otherwise, you'll be left kicking yourself. 😁

Still spinning PGMG - The New Romance

Zen Arcade - what’s the going rate in NYC? $50
Second Edition - $40
I reckon The Clash belongs in the $27 category (even by American standards)
Damn, Flip Your Wig hasn't been seen in years... you lucky dog 😁

What exactly is this "Duck and Cover" thing—some kind of compilation?

...where on earth did you track down a copy of Flip Your Wig on vinyl? Man, I'd kill for that one!!!!!

You might find some Epitaph stuff over at Dancing Bear on Gunduliceva

There are plenty of second-hand shops... though it really depends on what you're hunting for—I tend to be pretty picky myself. For instance, they’ve got tons of The Clash and Ramones, but things like Hüsker Dü or Minutemen are hard to come by...

Anyway, here are a few spots to check out...

Millenium—they have a decent amount of old punk band bootlegs, but the prices are way too high (around 100-$50 roughly), and they don't handle the vinyl properly—it all gets warped in those stupid sleeves—plus, Tomo is an incredibly unpleasant guy... so I almost never buy anything there.😁

Karma—that place is about two subway stops away from the depot and they actually have a website (www.karmavinil.com), so you can browse their stock. They're pricey too, but at least the records are well-preserved...

Free Bird—a bit further up in Tratinski, maybe four stops from the depot. It's alright; they email out their inventory every week and run frequent sales, but unfortunately, they rarely carry the really good stuff...

Roxy - Savska near Ciboney—they're doing some construction there now, so I'm not sure if they're even open... honestly, it's mediocre. By some miracle, they have a ton of electrobody records that aren't expensive (I think Tiljak sold them), but I doubt that's really your scene...

And that's about it... I can't recall the name of that second-hand shop on Preradovicova right across from art net caffe, but generally speaking, those guys are the best. They often overcharge, but the records are in great shape (unlike the ones at $3.25), and you can occasionally stumble upon some real gems.

There's also a place I think is called Kovac on Masarykova; I only popped in once and didn't see much of interest, but it might be worth a shot...

Hopefully, that helps a little...
The Strokes in Music ·
Even though The Strokes are an American band, they feel like this British invention... I can't recall a single issue of Rolling Stone from the last year that didn't feature them—not to mention Mars, but that’s a whole other conversation...
What actually caught me off guard was that after all the hype surrounding them, they released... well, a decent enough album. 🙄

But really... are we ready for Rapture? 😁

Like, say, Polvo - Vibracobra

Given how much I’d heard about them, I was expecting something far more intense 🙂

Yep. Just those hardcore kids who decided to pivot into metal...

Converge, Coalesce, Cave In...

Hmm... I can't quite think of a fourth band starting with C... 😁

Metalcore... though honestly, I only really get into it when I'm absolutely, deathly bored...

P.S. — if you're just ripping stuff from the internet, maybe just go buy the CD 😉

Who said I didn't buy the physical copy? 😁

Anyway — Husker Du, "Bricklayer"
