Morgan Wood77 said:Her face just totally rubs me the wrong way. I don't know why, but I just can't stand looking at her.

She was in that Twilight movie I watched recently, playing this super arrogant character, and combined with that annoying face, I honestly couldn't stand being in the same room as her.

It’s kind of hard to even talk about talent these days, I guess. I feel like you can't really call someone an actor just because they show up to a set for a few months and film the same scenes over and over again. Anyone could do that, really—even those mindless celebs who pop into movies and basically just go through the motions like actual professionals.

Look, it’s fine, you just aren't feeling her vibe, right? It happens! Sometimes you see an actor or a musician and you're just like, "Nah, not my type," and there's nothing you can do about it.

So, which of her movies have you actually sat through? I bet you haven't seen a ton of them, but surely you've caught at least a few, right?

briskhound2 said:Same here. Aside from her wearing some mediocre outfit, she didn't really bring much to the table. As a biopic, the whole movie is a total miss because they barely touched on what made the band special—which usually happens when half the members refuse to be credited in the story—and the only bright spot is Kristen Stewart, who actually turns out to be a decent actress once you strip away all that > crap...

I guess it just comes down to personal taste, right? I actually thought her performance was pretty solid.

redmarlin27 said:Every time I see her name pop up anywhere, it just sounds like Dakota Fanning to me. 🤣

haha wow men, that actually cracked me up 😂

Rachel Young3 said:I haven't even sat down to watch a single movie she's been in since she grew up...

Well, if that's the case, I am seriously telling you to check out The Runaways (2010) because it’s such a killer movie, and honestly, Dakota Fanning’s performance is so good I wouldn't even know where to start describing it!

I'm also really looking forward to Now is Good which hits theaters here in the USA on May 25th, 2012.

Ashley Fox42 said:Charlize is a true icon of beauty, really. Dakota, on the other hand, just doesn't quite hit that same mark. She’s an attractive girl, sure, but there isn't much else to say about her looks... if there is one thing that might actually lift her out of the sea of mediocrity, it’s her raw talent. At this stage, everything hinges on how she navigates the transition into adult roles—whether she manages to solidify her status or simply fades into obscurity.

Look, I’ve been talking about her talent this whole time and trying to emphasize that point, but you guys have already pivoted to that whole "we'll remember her when she was a kid" thing, acting like there's a million other blondes walking around out there.
I only brought up Charlize as an example of what real talent looks like.

That's exactly what I'm curious about too! I'm pretty sure she can pull it off, like I mentioned in my first post, but the real question is whether she'll actually get the right opportunities or if she'll just end up getting stuck with crappy movies and bad roles.
Dakota Fanning in Movies ·
I mean, what did you guys actually expect her to turn into? A curvy brunette? Of course she ended up a blonde.
And look, even though Charlize Theron is gorgeous and blonde, she’s got that actual talent that sets her apart from all those other pretty blondes out there—you know, the ones whose entire careers basically peak with a single rom-com. Just like Dakota, she’s got something more going on.

There just aren't *that* many truly talented actresses to be throwing around left and right, you know?

Edward Murphy4 said:Yeah.
I'd rather remember her from back in the day.😁

Sure, we were all a lot cuter when we were kids, but that's not really the point here, is it? We're talking about acting! So, what's your take on her craft? Do you actually dig her acting style?

I am absolutely obsessed with Dakota Fanning, even though I’m usually not the type to go overboard when it comes to child actors. There's just something about her that hits different, you know? She completely won me over with that raw talent she showed way back in her early days, especially in movies like *I am being Sam* and *Trapped*. Honestly, how can you not be impressed by someone who can carry a scene like that so effortlessly right from the start?
I was honestly just blown away by how much maturity that little girl could bring to her acting, and ever since then, I’ve been a massive fan, basically following her entire career like a hawk! Seriously, I truly believe Dakota has the potential to become one of the greatest actresses of all time—like, a total legend—and I really hope to see that happen one day, though obviously, a lot of that comes down to the kind of movies and roles she ends up landing, right?
It would honestly be such a massive waste if she didn't get the chance to really flex those talent muscles, you know? I truly get the feeling that no matter how heavy or demanding a role might be, she’s just going to absolutely nail it every single time. She already proved what she was capable of when she was just a kid, so now that she’s officially an adult, I’m fully expecting her to start snatching up all these huge lead roles in high-quality movies!
I haven't really kept up with all those TV series she was doing back when she was just a kid, but I’ve definitely read that people absolutely raved about her performances! When it comes to her movies, though, I’ve actually sat through pretty much everything she’s ever done, with the exception of Twilight and a few of those random short films floating around.
So, if you're wondering about her absolute favorite flicks, she's got some pretty solid taste! If I had to list them out—and honestly, the order doesn't even matter that much because they're all great—we're talking Hide and Seek, War of the Worlds, The Runaways, Trapped, and I Am Sam. Can you believe how diverse that lineup is? It’s like a total rollercoaster of genres!

image
Check out Dakota Fanning at the 2005 premiere of War of the Worlds in New York City! Can you even believe how much she's changed since then?

IMDb, Wait, are we really just going to dive straight into the Wiki? Honestly, where do you even start when you're looking at a massive deep dive like that? It’s kind of wild how much info is just sitting there, waiting for someone to actually click through all those endless blue links, right? You go in thinking you'll just check one quick fact about some Hollywood star or maybe look up an IMDb rating for a movie you barely remember, and suddenly it's three in the morning and you're reading the entire life story of a director from New York City! It's such a rabbit hole, isn't it? Like, once you get sucked in, there's no turning back, and you just end up wandering through these massive digital archives like a lost soul. Is it just me, or does anyone else feel that weirdly satisfying rush when you finally find that one hyper-specific piece of trivia that nobody else seems to know? It's basically the ultimate scavenger hunt for nerds, and honestly, I am totally here for it.

I honestly feel like Dakota totally earned her own dedicated thread, and let’s be real, there are plenty of us here who absolutely adore her and have nothing but respect for her talent!

Man, it would be so sick if we could actually drop this in so we can really lay out just how freaking hot a girl is. 😁
ruggedjackal46 said:Look, I get it—people tend to treat the whole Sci-Fi genre like it’s some kind of joke or just cheap popcorn entertainment, but honestly, who says there aren't absolute masterpieces in the mix? You can't just brush it all off when you look at the heavy hitters. I mean, just take Kubrick's Sci-Fi, for instance... those films are on a whole different level, right? Blade Runner, Solaris, Alien, Planet of the Apes, Alphaville, Close Encounters of the Third KindI mean, seriously, what else can you even say? It’s just like... well, you know. Star Wars, Terminator I mean, honestly, what else is there even to say about it? It’s just... it's everything, isn't it?

That's it, honestly—I've got nothing else to add.

rowdyowl said:When you look at something like Alien, it’s kind of sitting right on the fence, isn't it? I mean, even though it's technically sci-fi, most people end up watching it more as a straight-up horror flick.

Terminator is such a fascinating case study, isn't it? But honestly, if you really look at it—especially when you dive into the sequel—it feels like it leans way more into being an all-out action movie than anything else.

For me, when I sit down to watch Alien, I don't really see it as just some scary movie; I honestly view it more as a solid Sci-Fi film that just happens to have these intense horror elements sprinkled all over it. Isn't that kind of how it works? It’s got that deep space atmosphere, but man, those horror vibes are definitely there!

Since T2 is basically an action sci-fi hybrid, you're looking at a perfect 50/50 split between high-octane thrills and mind-bending sci-fi, which means it honestly fits right into both genres at once, don't you think?
The Crow in Movies ·
Angela Alvarez10 said:I always figured they would have had to swap out Brandon near the end of the movie🤷but from what I can tell, they didn't. Is there actually a scene in the film where he dies?

They used doubles just to get the whole thing wrapped up.

Eliza Hutton and his Mother supported director Alex Proyas ' decision to complete The Crow. At the time of Lee's death, only eight days were left before completion of the movie. A majority of the film had already been completed with Lee and only a few scenes remained to be done. To complete the film, stunt double Chad Stahelski, who was a friend of Lee's at Inosanto Academy, served as a stand-in; special effects were used to give him Lee's face. Another stunt double named Jeff Cadiente was also used to complete the movie.

The Crow was released in May 1994 and became a box Office hit, grossing over $50 million dollars in the U.S., and retaining a loyal cult following many years after its release. The film is dedicated to Lee and Hutton.

I honestly still can't wrap my head around how the Mexicans blew it; I'm feeling pretty gutted about it, seriously. 😢

On a brighter note, the energy from the fans is just absolutely legendary. I am beyond stoked that I get to catch every single game in Group B live, so I figured I'd drop a few shots from day one of the Euro championship to share the vibes with you guys.

Click an image to expand:image, image, image_(I shrunk these down since they're massive. The original resolution is 1944x2592)

I’ve got maybe 6 or 7 more photos tucked away, but honestly, I get so caught up in all the excitement that I totally forget to snap pictures, and even when I do remember, I just tell myself, "Forget the camera, man, just watch the game and soak it all in." 😁
There is nothing quite like being inside the arena in Cairo and cheering alongside the Mexicans.
neonfalcon16 said:The Germans are never going to be pushovers. Honestly, even if the refs were on their side, I doubt it would change much. We’ll just have to wait and see how things shake out once they get this new coach in the dugout.

And here I was thinking the Germans were the heavy hitters! 😲 What’s the word on Sweden? And who do you think is actually the top dog in Group B?

To be totally real with you guys, I don't follow handball that closely, so I'm kind of flying blind on which teams are actually elite. I caught the Czech Republic playing during that four-nation tournament recently, and they actually looked pretty solid.
Man, I can’t believe there are seriously only two days left until everything kicks off! 🙏recanprdiodsrece: :radujesekodete:
So, I finally scored tickets for every single match in Group B! I am seriously buzzing because this is going to be my first time ever catching a European Handball Championship live in person.

We are so close to the opening whistle now. Yeah!
3D Movies: Yay or Nay? in Movies ·
Honestly, I don't really give a damn about whether a movie is shot in 3D or if the theatrical release is 3D, because let's be real—you can always just find a standard 2D version on a torrent site anyway.

But since I’m totally exhausted from all this constant bickering and people kicking up a fuss over 3D movies lately, I figured I'd just weigh in and say I'm against them.

The first 3D flick I ever saw was Freddy Krueger way back in the day. Then, a few years ago, I actually went out and bought some 3D glasses just to see if I could get into the hype again, and I ended up powering through a handful of 3D movies over a couple of months. But after that? Man, for the last few years, I haven't had even the slightest urge to sit through a 3D movie ever again.
The Fast and the Furious franchise in Movies ·
Hades said:Can you believe it? It’s actually happening! Vin Diesel just dropped the news that he’s officially greenlit the filming for Fast & Furious 6 and 7, and honestly, I am absolutely losing my mind right now! Can you even imagine the adrenaline rush when we finally see the crew back in action on the big screen? I mean, after everything we've been through with the previous installments, seeing if they can top the madness is going to be legendary, don't you think? I'm already sitting on the edge of my seat just thinking about the stunts and the high-octane chaos coming our way!

image

Man, I am seriously stoked! I honestly can't wait to see how the next installments turn out. Are you guys even ready for what's coming? Because I definitely am! 👍

I’m really crossing my fingers that Fast & Furious 6 turns out to be even better than Fast Five, you know? I mean, don't get me wrong, Fast Five was definitely a solid ride, but couldn't they have pushed it way further? Like, wouldn't it be so much more hype if they leaned harder into the actual street racing scenes? I just feel like there's so much more potential for those high-octane races to make the whole thing legendary!

Wouldn't it be absolutely wild if Kate Backinala joined the franchise as a cop or something? Just imagine her riding through the streets alongside the rest of the crew! It would be such a cool dynamic to add to the mix, don't you think?

Just finished watching this. 🙂

Honestly, it was a pretty fun vampire flick, probably way better than I was expecting to get out of it.
Colin Farrell is absolutely killing it as the vampire 🙏 The plot is pretty standard stuff—you've definitely seen it all before—but honestly, that didn't bother me one bit while I was watching. For me, the biggest thing is the vibe, and the atmosphere here is totally spot on.
Overall though, we're talking about a middle-of-the-road horror movie, so if you go in with sky-high expectations, you're probably gonna be disappointed.

My rating: 5/10

feralorca82 said:yeah, just a decent enough remake. caught me by surprise in a good way since I thought it would be much worse.
The only thing they could've tweaked is those vampires. They make some really weird faces sometimes, almost like someone shoved a wooden stake down their throat or something.😁

Hey, how does the original Evil compare? Is it better, in your opinion?

I thought the vampires were alright, and man, CF is such a standout as the vampire—he acts like he's just too powerful for any mere mortal to touch, kind of like a Predator, which explains that smug look on his face, at least that's how it came across to me.
rustydrifter10 said:Once this ad wraps up, the next one will probably roll right in. Honestly, I feel like the real fix is coming up with ads that don't constantly interrupt our flow here on Reddit or make the whole site look cluttered and messy. 🙂

Exactly! And honestly? This is just the tip of the iceberg. Once they get started with this kind of stuff, it’s like a drug—you can't stop them once they've got a taste for it...

I mean, look, if they put an ad on the side, fine, I get it, but why on earth are they shoving ads all over the place like this? 😕🤷

Up until now, the ads were actually pretty chill—just tucked away in the top right or maybe some "Marketing" label on the middle right, you know? But this current setup is just straight-up garbage.

edit:

I'm voting for "- Get this crap away from me!" 👍

Aha! Now we’re talking! This is absolutely killer! 👍

Seriously, this is how it should be done. I’m so sick of those tiny little avatars where you have to squint just to figure out who someone is—it's such a waste of eyesight. This way, man, people can actually see you, get to know you, and recognize you instantly. 😉

@Tyndal

I honestly thought you and Maria Barnes had those massive avatars, but I just took another look and it still looks like mine is stuck at a tiny 50x50 pixels to me 🤷

Are you guys actually testing out the bigger ones and they just haven't gone live yet, or what's the deal?
