nimblemarlin17 said:It’s not surprising, honestly, living in this total mess called America. I spent two months over there and was blown away by their sports scene. They're about 2000 years ahead of us. We basically just live off random flashes of brilliance instead of actually doing the work.

And yeah, how is an AC Milan-Manchester United matchup supposed to pack out the Rose Bowl or Yankee Stadium when Yankee Stadium couldn't even fill up back when they were playing Milan or Manchester?

Please, don't even compare them to us!
It really bugs 😁 me when you claim the vibe at American stadiums is better than, say, the European Championship. For me, a packed stadium in England or Italy with 30,000 people will always beat a massive crowd of 150,000 at the Rose Bowl. At least people here actually cheer. Over there, all you hear is:
munch munch, crunch crunch, woo!, yeah!, munch munch...
😁

Nah, he said it because those Olympics were a total circus. I don't know if you recall, but every single headline started with disaster... fiasco... madness.... The US looked pretty bad back then. They didn't really redeem themselves until Salt Lake City.
You're kind of obsessed with Americans...

Please. At the closing ceremony for those games, even the OO president at the time—Samaranch—didn't claim they were the best ever. The US totally tanked it.

I watched the exact same thing last year. Sure, it's just a preseason tournament, but they only brought out the heavy hitters last time. They actually looked like they gave a damn when they scored. 😁

Richard Thompson33 said:Look, maybe brightscout63 liked how they played up the hysteria, but for me, it felt way too over the top. (And trust me, I'm an American woman 😁, I know a thing or two about losing it. 😉)

😁
Believe me, I get it. I have a girlfriend. That kind of hysteria? It’s not even an exaggeration. 😉
A massive win for American cinema!!! in Movies ·
Richard Hernandez13 said:Not only is he still kicking, but after a hundred years, he actually decided to step back behind the camera.

And based on the clips I've seen, his new flick feels more like a filmed off-Broadway play than an actual movie.

The Journalist was a decent watch, though...
Lolita (1962) in Movies ·
Lolita is a cinematic masterpiece.

In my opinion, Lolita is Kubrick's absolute worst.

😁

So I finally sat down and watched Lolita the other day. I’m not saying it’s trash, but man, it's predictable enough to hurt and way too extra for its own good.
The best part of the movie is hands down the opening—seeing Sellers playing ping pong while dressed like some washed-up writer in a Roman toga. 😁

Can someone please explain why I actually thought this was worth ninety minutes of my life instead of just throwing it in the trash immediately? Seriously, I’m clearly only good for 😵 😵

Look, even if you think I'm an idiot for liking it, I didn't hate it. Actually, I kind of did. The way Altman captures that pure, unhinged hysteria was pretty spot on. So yeah, I can't tell you how to avoid feeling ripped off, but that's my take. 😳
If I had been in charge of casting...! in Movies ·
brightscout63 said:Honestly, it’d be better if Tarantino had just never filmed that disaster ("The Ninth Gate"). 🙂

I remember thinking that movie was actually pretty solid at first. It had so much potential. Then the ending just falls apart into total nonsense. I don't even remember it anymore—basically scrubbed it from my brain. 😁

I’d swap Laurence Fishburne out for Chris Rock in The Matrix. It would’ve kept things from being so dead serious. 😁

Pearl Jam performing Porch (Alice in Chains Unplugged version) 🙂

I'll buy everyone here a round if Greece actually makes it out of the group against Turkey, Denmark, and Ukraine. 👋

Chloe Palmer2 said:The French squad was elite back then. Now? They're a total mess.

Nah, you've got it backwards. On paper, their talent pool is way deeper now. Back then, Henry was just a rising star, Pires was still finding his footing, and they had Guivarch clogging up the attack (seriously?). They only pulled it off because everything clicked—including those two goals from Thuram. 😠

Based on everything I've seen from this World Cup, my money is on... Honduras!

Had no clue Fiorentina made it through. FORZA VIOLA!👍

A congressional hearing or a lecture on Old English linguistics can be a total drag. This movie actually manages to be more boring than both.

"When asked how George W. Bush would react to hearing that Michael Moore snagged the golden palm, Moore just quipped: 'Will he even know what that is? I just hope nobody tells him I won this award while he's busy munching on a pretzel!' "

Sean Lee7 said:Hey guys, how can anyone say Monaco doesn't have fans? There were at least 50 of them at Stamford Bridge yesterday!!! 😛

Those were just undercover Arsenal fans. Everyone knows they can't stand them. 😉

I'm pulling for Monaco in the Super Bowl, though I'd much rather see Chelsea there just for the vibe in the stands.

Since the "Monaco faithful" can't even fill a small section, ticket prices might actually be cheap. 😁
Anyone down?😉
